I saw him play for Real Madrid in the Bernabeu.

Was a great experience

One hell of a debate on who's the best out of these pair. Both sit on the very top table when it comes to all time greats, in my opinion.

I watched a Champions League match in the late 90s, Man United v Juventus, Zidane didn't give the ball away all game, (maybe once) and he was operating in the final third a lot, so no pointless square passing around the defence.
I'd still prefer Bale though

Bale retired far to early, when you compare with Messi & Ronaldo

Amazing stats.

What makes it more crazy is one of them was shunned and criticised and the other was treated like a god......

Different positions though.

The Madrid fans were very harsh with Bale though. Ridiculously so. Probably contributed to putting him off football.

Real Madrid fans loved and worshipped him except at the very end when they sided with Zidane.
I’ve been amongst them.

The infamous flag photo turned many against him for obvious reasons.

It was mate, as was Barcelona in the Nou Camp.

I love these City breaks taking in the big games.

Why is this even a conversation?

Bale was fantastic but Zidane was one of the best ever players in the game.

We have bias, but Zidane is way way over Bale sorry.

I think the main conversation was about the stats which surprised me.

I wouldn’t compare them or try to choose which was the better player because they were in two completely different positions.

Yet the stats say different.
You did see that but yeah?
So it at least warrants a conversation don’t you think.

It's a conversation because most if honest would say Zidane was better but the stats say different.

To be clear, I'm not criticising the OP for this thread because of course people can debate. I just personally feel that Zidane is in another league to Bale.

I accept the stats don't show that, but I'm more talking generally as a player.

I wouldn’t disagree with that at all. Zidane was a magician.

Got to disagree here in terms of what? They are completely different types of player anyway but did anyone including Messi and Ronaldo drag teams to places they didn't belong like Bale did (not saying he's on their level) Wales and Spurs had years of punching well above their weight pretty much single handedly because of Bale and Madrid won 5 champions league titles during his time. He's definitely in Zidanes league

I think that's right.

Messi and Ronaldo have both been incredibly lucky with injuries throughout their careers.

The Bale who went to America instead of coming here and who played in the last World Cup was a shadow of the great player he used to be.

They say that you know when it's time to stop and his body just couldn't keep up the standards he set for himself.

Peak George best is better than both

Agree with that.

Duncan Edwards would have been better than all three though in my opinion (reading about him anyway), although a different type of player.
