There are suggestions that he will resign his seat as an MP, and then re-contest it in the by-election. From his point of view, it would silence his critics. Although I think he would almost certainly win the by-election, I personally don't think it would have the effect he thinks. But him and his supporters will strongly believe it would.

This is exactly what has happened. He's announced that he's resigning his seat as an MP and will stand in the by-election.

Says he has "done nothing wrong and obeyed all rules". Goes on to list the financial sacrifices he believes he made when he entered and politics, acknowledges that he has made money in recent years - but is not against the rules.

Says the Times article over the weekend was written by someone who "despise him".

Says he has had "constant demonisation" by the press and needed money for his security. Points out how a mob attacked and wrote off his car, also an attack on his house. Says there are daily calls for him to be murdered on social media.

Criticises the Times for publishing a photo of where his daughter lives. Says that has directly damaged her security and that Sky News have harassed her since. Says "I will not tolerate this".

Accuses Labour of running the country like a Communist country to block Reform winning power. Says the country needs a General Election - but Labour, Conservative and the media don't want one.

Says this will be a People v The Establishment by-election and "if I win, you win."

I'm no fan of him, but if it is correct that his daughter has been harassed by the media then that is unacceptable. Wouldn't condone that against any politician. I also don't think any politician should be subject to violence or death threats.

I take some issue when he repeats his claim that he is "the most attacked" politician of our lifetimes when Jo Cox and David Amess were murdered.

The rest of his comments were political points, which he is of course entitled to make even though I disagree with them.

I hope he doesn't win the by-election, but think it's likely that he will.
