So Craig Bellamy had Told Wales he was leaving /But

Fri Jun 26, 2026 6:29 am

Because Burnley would not let him totally change the whole of the backroom Staff who some had been their for years helping them with Promotions etc.

Burnley were willing to pay the Full Compensation Wales had asked and let Bells bring in an Assistant and Fully back him on New players / accepted the wage contract / But The Owners did not want a Total Clear out , Bells wanted everything his way they fell out at the last moment.

Apparently it had to be everything Bells way nothing else.

SO WHERE DOES BELLAMY GO NOW AS HE HAS SHOWN NO LOYALTY TO WALES ABD NOT SO LONG AGO HE PLEDGED HE WAS BUILDING A FUTURE FOR WALES???

No wonder Burnley were wary off him.

The Welsh FA had lined up seeing Bells Replacement on his request.

Personally I believe he should not now keep the Wales Job.

I don’t think he realised many won’t forget:

I think this is unfortunate for all sides, the time has now passed. Feels like a few bad results next window and it could turn toxic quite quickly. We need a fresh start now

He better not come back in September saying how the Wales job is the best job in the world.

Re: So Craig Bellamy had Told Wales he was leaving /But

The problem Craig Bellamy has now if he stays on as Wales manager is that he needs to get a lot of the fans back on side.

He needs performances and results. Sadly, the next three Welsh matches are Portugal & Denmark away and Norway home.

It has potential to not end well…

Think Wales should look elsewhere. Been really poor for a number of games now anyway too.

Re: So Craig Bellamy had Told Wales he was leaving /But

Unfortunately, he has made a big mistake here. Reputational damage that will not be forgotten by the Welsh fans. He needs to address the issue in a news conference and admit it was an error of judgment. Perhaps he will be forgiven in time with some success I.e Euro qualification. No loyalty in football these days, I thought he would be loyal to his country given all his rhetoric about loving Wales and the job. Disappointed.

Re: So Craig Bellamy had Told Wales he was leaving /But

Fri Jun 26, 2026 7:59 am

I also thought he didn’t want the hectic day to day commitment of championship football and the less punishing Wales job suited his life better.
For me he should resign.

In my world you are either 100% in or you should leave . It’s a poor message to the players and fans . Time to go now

Re: So Craig Bellamy had Told Wales he was leaving /But

I notice some have been sticking up for him on here and social media in the last day or so, saying that we don't know the full story. Which was a fair argument.

But now we do, I think he should resign.

It's not just that he was going to go to Burnley, managers have these conversations. But after everything he said about not going and how much he loved the Wales job, it doesn't sit well.

As others have said, things could get toxic very quickly. I doubt the players are impressed either.

I really think he must go now Untenable situation for him as far as I am concerned I not been happy with his performance as national manager but have given him benefit of my doubt However time for him to leave

Re: So Craig Bellamy had Told Wales he was leaving /But

I’ve no issue with Bellamy seeking different employment for whatever reasons he sees fit be that money, career development or whatever.

However, I think his job as manager of Wales should be untenable. He should resign and move on.

I’m pretty sure he won’t though which would mean he’s just ticking over with the Wales job until another opportunity comes along where this is likely to happen all over again.

Resign or the Welsh FA should sack him.

It would be better if CB and/or FAW made an official statement about this, as much of it could be paper talk.

I still thing CB is one of the best managers Wales has had for while, but as with all managers, including BBM, some of his decisions have been baffling and I just don't get his approach to Rubin Colwill.

Definitely should be shown the door. Best for both partys and the right time too as its just not working.

Once we get leathered by Portugal, Denmark and Norway by November he will be gone anyway

Under these circumstances, Craig’s ‘loyalty’ to Wales has to be questioned, but I still think there’s more to this story than we’ve seen (so far)

Equally, I would question the Burnley hierarchy, who were seemingly not prepared to ‘back’ him with his staff choices?

After all, they (seemingly) wanted him to take them forward, and it would have been his backside on the line when/if it all went wrong

Chris,

They were paying over £400,000 for him to get out of his Wales Contract.

Letting him bring his Own Assistant as you would expect .

But they have Staff their that have helped this in the last years they want to keep the Owners.

They were giving Bells his own Big War Chest.

Bells is to Demanding for an unproven Manager.

And Bullshitted regarding his priorities were Wales

Spot on.

I’m really disappointed with Bellamy. He made a big thing about saying this was the best job ever and how privileged he is to manage his country and this group of players. He was so effusive about it we hadn’t really heard anything quite so “genuine” before. He didn’t have to say all that.

But what he really meant was “it’s great until somebody offers me more money” !!

Now don’t get me wrong, if he had been offered a big club, playing in the top tier and Europe I would understand it. But he’s been offered Burnley of the Championship who are likely to struggle to keep their best players but are willing to offer him a lot more MONEY.

Personally I think we should get shot of him and give it to Cooper or Edwards who might actually show some GENUINE loyalty to their country. There is no way Bellamy can command loyalty from us or, more importantly, the players after this and he needs to learn that through the consequences to his actions.

I’d also add that whatever happens at our club in the future I wouldn’t want Bellamy anywhere near us. He’s clearly a mercenary with no loyalty to anyone but himself.

Rant over !! Sorry, but he’s annoyed me !!

I agree with everything you've said there.

Very disappointed as he appeared happy to join Burnley and only retracted when his terms were not met.
Equally, I remember the total shambles under Rob Page in Qatar and I know, from a purely performance standpoint, who I’d prefer to be in charge.
A bit conflicted tbh

I like Bellamy as our national coach but I now think his position is untenable. He should resign and help
The FAW to bring in his replacement.

Re: So Craig Bellamy had Told Wales he was leaving /But

I’d be interested to hear some of the media put it to Bellamy how he’d react to this situation, as a fan now, if one of his players had talks with another team and couldn’t agree terms despite saying they loved their current club.

I also think Craig had a lot of credit in the back having represented Wales and speaking so highly of his pride in being the national coach. People were prepared to give him time and buy into his narrative. If he does stay, that sentiment will have vanished and people will want immediate results. He won’t get those, because of tough upcoming matches, so it will all end on a bad note with him, now, I hope resigning following a string of poor results.

Having read his autobiography - this does not sound at all surprising.

With regards to the backroom staff, it's always a difficult one. Pep, Pochettino, Simone, Ancelotti get to bring their whole backroom team with them - Bellamy does not.

Plus backroom staff will include maybe local guys on normalish money, certainly long serving, maybe fans of the club - who is Bellamy to expect them all to be binned in favour of his guys?

Geraint Hughes on ssn reported on Thurs that bellers talks with Burnley was with agreement of faw and everything connected to the approach ect was legitimately done and no animosity was portrayed between faw and bellers no mention of cooper Edwards Hughes is a reporter who doesn't say things that are not true! But it's left a very confusing situation for the fans and players as to bellers commitment to Wales although faw ceo Moody said yesterday he's still fully committed until euros 2028... when it's expected he will seek club football ! He as stated 4 yrs is enough time at international level

Bellamy is an incredibly passionate manager, but his desire for total control over everything will make club management very tough down the line.

BBM has shown the tactical flexibility to compromise, and managing to win over Vincent Tan is a massive achievement. He has done what almost every other past manager failed to do, and has him eating out of his hand. Bellamy will definitely find it a reality check when he goes back to the day-to-day club game.

I doubt the Welsh FA could afford to pay him off and appoint a new Manager; they just have to wait for him to accept another offer or fail and resign, or he could bounce back and feel he owes us and get them playing again.

Either way, they won't pay him off; he will have to decide to leave one way or another.

I do get the feeling that we would have been better off if he had gone through with it and accepted the Burnley job.

What I find interesting was that the Welsh FA had agreed compensation quickly with Burnley and allowed Bellamy to talk to them.

Doesn't exactly sound like they were fighting tooth and nail to hang on to him does it?

They were very happy with the Compensation.

Now it’s unbelievable they would have to pay him off.

Exactly, it was bye-bye; it's as if they had a preferred Manager lined up, hhhmmmm

Would also be interesting to know if the backroom staff he wanted to take were all Wales also, which in essence he would have asked them first if they would if he did go so possibly the whole coaching set up would have dumped us as a country?
