Just announced he's passed away sad news, a great commentator on radio Wales and a Cardiff City historian RIP Richard Shepherd

Sad news - will always remember his distinctive voice. RIP RS.

Did a lot of work for the club, not just as a commentator, over many years.

Not wishing to sound unkind but he 'borrowed' many valuable archives from the club many years ago behind the cloak of research including bound volumes of programmes from the 1920's and accounts over many years amongst other things.
When he then retired a few years ago he decided to sell them at auction to top up his pension.
Needless to say when City found out they weren't very happy but fortunately managed to buy most the archive back. I'm sure some of you will remember as it had a fair bit of publicity at the time.

I met him just the once. His wife’s family was from here in Kettering.
When he worked for the BBC, film footage was taken of the match, but they always cut out the goals for the news broadcast. Richard ‘rescued’ many of the games before they were chopped and ultimately discarded. The film gave been lost forever.

Richard bless him, he patched together recordings of my dad playing and transferred it to a cd for me to give to him.
Up until then, my dad had never seen himself on tv!
It’s something I will always be incredibly grateful and thankful for.

He was a great font of knowledge on city and the other welsh clubs .Also an excellent commentator rip.

Loved listening to him in the portakabin in the back of the bob bank watching on tv with a few pints! Lovely voice

I think it’s a bit harsh to say he ‘borrowed’ the City memorabilia from Ninian Park.
