However, for those of us who remember them, they were great times, and we weren’t without our successes; culminating in our UEFA Cup Winners Cup Quarter Final (1st Leg) 1-0 win over the mighty Real Madrid, thanks to a Brian Clark goal![]()
We lost the second leg in Spain, but as I said, they were great times until politics got involved, and the non-Welsh League clubs were barred from what was then the Welsh Cup![]()

Great times indeed. Not just the Real Madrid game though. We knocked out Sporting Lisbon the holders in our first season - too young for that one though. Were desperately unlucky not to reach the final in 1968 losing to last kick of the game against Hamburg. Other great results beating French cup winners Nantes 6-2 on aggregate, Dutch Cup winners NAC Breda 5-2 on aggregate, Moscow Torpedo in a replay - (remember replays) and the Norwegian Cup winners (cant remember their name) 7-1 away and 5-1 at home. I remember being surprised when we "only" drew with Porto in Cardiff. I took it all for granted and didnt realise at that young age what I was experiencing

You are spot on with all that!![]()
They really were great times and we may not have always appreciated them until they were taken away by those lovely people from the FAW
No selfish intent, of course!

We can’t really have it both ways taking the substantially more money from being in the English system and then taking the money from clubs that are in the Welsh league who qualify for Europe
