Wayne Rooney admits to holding grudge against Wales - 'I've never forgot that'
The former England captain has admitted that he has never forgotten a moment, which means he won't support Wales.

Former England captain Wayne Rooney has admitted that he continues to hold a grudge against Wales, because of Euro 2016. The tournament saw Wales complete a memorable run to the semi-final.

When talking about Scotland on the Wayne Rooney show, he said: “I’ve found a little bit of a soft spot for them. I want them to do well.

He then added: “I wouldn’t say the same about Wales. I always remember the day we got knocked out to Iceland, and the Wales team were watching in the hotel and they’re up celebrating.

“I just thought, they can be happy we got knocked out, no problem. And they’re all posting on their social media and I’ve never forgot that.”

While England fell to defeat in their round of 16 game, Wales beat Northern Ireland 1-0 at the same stage. They then came out as 3-1 winners over Belgium in their quarter-final to set up a semi-final against eventual winners Portugal.

Ashley Williams:

"Half of our squad are born in England - but we're very Welsh when we play. No-one doubted our commitment to Wales. We watched the game against Iceland, and there's a little bit of previous from a couple of weeks ago, but a lot of it was just because it was Iceland.”

"Who didn't love Iceland that year? Apart from England, everyone else loved them."

England mocked Wales for years for not qualifying.

Yet they can't handle it when the roles are reversed.

This is one of the most one-sided rivalries in sport.

As a lifelong bluebird, this was ingrained into me during the early 80's, but my non-city friends (the majority) supported England in the 82 World Cup, whereas I was anyone but England. Our Jack friends have their flag on most of their banners, so it's never gestated there.

IMO, this is a rugby crossover that has gained legs and turned into a nationalist thing. It probably surprised many English football fans and players, as they never think of Wales as a rival, we are the little brother of a very large family.

I was surprised the English-born and based players reacted as they did from the famouse video, it was great to see. They got it

Rattle an englishmans grave they don' t like it ,but like to dish it out, they the english to date are the only fans in the world cup to boo the oppositions anthem in the very first game,
so we do not need spud head rooney to give us lessons about respect.
Try reading some history I would suggest and remember the welsh were on these isles long before the Anglo saxons and romans came here.

He also moaned at his own english fans when they lost to Iceland ,
His words were "shame when your own english fans boo you"

As was pointed out to him when playing at the CCS during the dregs of his career,

He's just a fat granny shagger.

I for one will hope England win the world cup (but very much doubt it).

The comments from Rooney are just grudge petulance , as somebody else said he moaned about his own English fans booing them "Nice when your own fans boo you!".

Let us never forget it was the English who stopped the Home internationals because they said the opposition was not up to scratch ?

Love being British, Love being Welsh :old:

That's fair enough, he makes a good point, don't blame him, I would feel exactly the same if I were him, and so would every single one of us.
