That stinks and makes me now believe the conspiracy theorists regarding the last few weeks of the Scottish season. Different governing body I know but I remember Wales being banned by UEFA from playing in Cardiff for 4 years for a much lesser invasion against Yugoslavia in the Quarter - Finals of the 76 Euros.

No way was that a lesser invasion, it was angry chaos compared to the Celtic fans celebrating. People climbing over the fencing to try & get at the referee after the final whistle, coins etc. being thrown at him & I hate to think what would have happened had he not been rushed down the tunnel, it was carnage.

Weren't Wales banned from playing within 100 miles of Cardiff or maybe even further. Hence the now infamous game & resulting handball against Scotland that was played at Anfield.

9 coaches and officials connected to Celtic, have been convicted of child abuse. The SFA hasn’t punished them for that, obviously they aren’t going to face a severe punishment for a pitch invasion.

I suppose we can have different opinions. I was at that game and though the atmosphere was ugly, unlike the Celtic game no players or officials were attacked. The referee blew the whistle by the tunnel and was gone before anyone was on the pitch. The police to their credit had already seen the potential for an ugly situation to develop and had lined up alongside the Grandstand.

I seem to recall the ban was 200 miles from Cardiff before it was pointed out that we couldn't play anywhere in Wales. It was reduced to 100 miles so UEFA games could be played in Wrexham

Contrary to popular belief this had no effect on the Anfield game as it was under FIFA jurisdiction rather UEFA. The reason for the switch was in the meantime the Safety of Sports Act had restricted Cardiff capacity to 25,000. The council had gone over the top on the regulations and the FAW greedily choose to take the money. Between them the council, the FAW and a dreadful referee possibly cost us a World Cup place

It's a difference of opinion as I was also there & thought it was very ugly but then again I was a youngster, just into my teens.

Don't remember anything about the capacity at Ninian Park being reduced back then though. Do you have a link to the story so I can have a read or know the why? We didn't ever get the local rag back then so I probably missed a lot of national (Welsh) stuff.

Sorry I dont have any link I just remember it. From what I remember The Safety of Sports Act was passed in 1975 but must have become effective just after the Yugoslavia game which was in 1976. The act required all international grounds and First Division grounds to have a certificate pf safety. As an international ground Cardiff were affected. The local authority were responsible for issuing it and went overboard with us, reducing the capacity to 12,000 initially though this was eventually increased to around 25,000 as the club carried out extensive work. No one else was hit like this. It may have been the fall out over the Yugoslavia game that caused the council to act in such a draconian way. The cost of the work crippled us and it was a major cause of our decline. No other Second Division clubs were initially effected though it was extended to all grounds with a capacity over 10,000 a few years later. It was because of this that the game was moved to Anfield. I was on the Kop that night which was an absolute death trap. Roughly the capacity of the whole of Ninian Park was crammed on to that one terrace. Ii is ironic but very sad that I believe someone died on the Kop that night though I am not sure if it was ever shown it was due to the crush. Strange I can remember all this but have trouble remebering the games this season. An age thing :D
