A forum for all things Cardiff City

It’s a subjective topic but I thought it would be interesting to see who our members perceive to be ‘true Bluebird legends’ and (maybe) why?
For me, there is a very strong case for Brian Clark, who scored one of the most famous goals in club history on 10 March 1971 when he headed the winning goal in our 1–0 victory over the mighty Real Madrid in the European Cup Winners’ Cup quarter-final at Ninian Park
He scored 91 goals in 240 appearances in all competitions, and he was consistently one of the team’s main attacking threats, and was our leading scorer for multiple seasons, including three consecutive seasons between 1969 and 1972; helping deliver silverware and success during his time with the Bluebirds, winning multiple Welsh Cups and regularly competing in Europe
On his return to the club, he helped secure promotion back to the Second Division in 1975–76
His legacy is officially recognised by the club and supporters, a road beside the stadium was named ‘
Brian Clark Way’ in 2012 (overwhelmingly backed supporters) to recognised both his achievements and his lasting connection with the club.
He remained part of the Cardiff City family after his retirement from football and with all the above plus him being a lovely man, his ‘
legend’ status is a ‘
given’ for me!

There are numerous players that we could label 'legends', Brian Clark absolutely, Phil Dwyer absolutely, Whitts absolutely.
My own personal favourites are John Buchanan, Don Murray, Brian Harris and Peter King.

It's gotta be Whitts, followed by McNaughton.
Although I loved both Phil Stant and Kavanagh (not really legendary status though I know)

I have been going since the mid 80's
Joey - Pure Heart
Whitts - Artist
Notables, but not legends, Gunnar, Kev, Sol, Ralls,Blakey, Rambo (purely of what he became but was always a city kid)

I had the pleasure I of getting to know Brian very well in his City Ambassador hospitality role when i was part of Redrow management team during those 3 sponsorship years. Wonderful man , always polite and a smile - definite legend for me- along with Phil Dwyer - Mr Cardiff City during 70’s/ early 80’s. More recently i was absolutely gutted when Kavanagh left the club in such circumstances - he loved living down in Cardiff and was sad to leave - i agree may not be ‘legend status’ but what a player.

Yes a subjective thread and a good one with many different opinions.
Agree with the poster who said the word legend is used far too often.
Clark, Whitts and Dwyer 100% legends.
Loved McNaughton but there’s no way I’d call him a legend.
Loved Sol even more but not a legend.
Blake? No chance, he only scored 35 goals in 4 years I think.
Gunnarsson, not for me. Was a decent player is all.
Just my opinion.

Very subjective so although I disagree with some selections, not going to criticise them because this is one of those threads where it's about someone's own feeling.
But personally I base it on a few things - time spent at the club, are they remembered, a sort of "cult" player and achievements.
That's how I landed on McNaughton, with other players like Whitts that I would have chosen but were already mentioned.
Likes of Bamba, Gunnarsson, Bellamy, Chopra etc great in recent years but didn't pick them because they didn't fit my own personal criteria.
But all this from me shows just how subjective it is

Whitte's was a given and
mc naughton chopra Ernie and the older crew from the 70s/80s,
bamba shaun morrison were obviously short term heroes but had a great impact ,
but not big longtime ledgends.
