A forum for all things Cardiff City

CARDIFF CITY:
- We scored more goals than anyone else in the division, with 90. Despite a lengthy layoff for Salech (who would have likely broken the 20 goal mark) and meltdowns on here for not signing a striker in Jan.
- Cardiff City got the highest 'FotMob' rating, with 7.04/10. This is a subjective but unbiased score of performance.
- We scored the most goals per match, which averaged out 2.0 goals per game. This equalled Man City, betters MK Dons but just short of Coventry who managed 2.1.
- We were joint 3rd in goals conceded per match with 1.1. Lincoln were 0.9 in first, Stevenage were second with 1.0.
- We were way ahead of the rest for average possession, with 63.1% of the ball. Up from 46.6% the season before, and 45.4% 2 years ago. BBM ball. This is also the best out of the 92 in the English pyramid.
- We were 2nd in clean sheets with 17. Unsurprisingly Lincoln and Stevanage were ahead, both with 19. We managed 8 in 24/25 relegation season.
- We topped xG (76.4), Shots on target per match (5.4), Big Chances (132), Big Chances Missed (82), Accurate passes per match (433) and touches in the oppositions box (1,371). BBM ball.
- Bizarrely, we were 2nd in number of corners, but 22nd in the league for goals from set pieces. We were poor from corners - this needs improvements for next season as we may see less of the ball. Conversely, champions Lincoln were top of the list for goals from set pieces and 21st in number of corners.
- Another strange one is that we were 23rd in tackles made. Likely as we had most of the ball, though.
- 3rd in possession won in the final 3rd.
- Only 2 Cardiff City players made the FotMob team of the season. NG (7.52 Rating) and Colwill (7.38)
Player Stats
- Salech finished 11th on the top scorer list with 14 goals. Robbo, Willock & Rubin finished joint 39th with 8 goals each.
- Ollie Tanner finished 2nd in assists, with 12. Wintle & Willock were next on the list, joint 14th with 7 each. Rubin was 25th with 6.
- Perry NG was rated as the 2nd best player in the division, which is an average of your subjective/unbiased score per
match. 7.52/10 behind Ollie Norwood who for me is way above L1. Rubin was 8th, Wintle was 10th, Bagan 13th.
- Trott and Bagan are the only 2 that feature in the top 50 'mins played' in 31st and 35th respectively. BBM's rotation/tinkering, depending on whether we were winning or losing on this forum.
- Robbo was #1 for shots on target per 90, and 4th in goals per 90. Whenever called upon, he was clinical.
- Lawler was #1 for accurate passes per 90, Turnbull was #2. Lawler was 65%, in good company as it's what Saliba and Van Dijk were sat at in the prem. Rodri was 86.7%!! These are the kind of stats that will inflate Lawlers pricetag.
- Cian Ashford was way ahead of the rest of our squad in 'Successful dribbles' in 14th. Kellyman and Tanner were high 20s for this stat.
- Salech was #1 for 'Big Chances Missed'. This shouldn't be a shock, but also shouldn't be seen as a negative. Haaland and Thiago are top 2 in the prem.
- 'Tackles per 90' is the only catagory that we don't have a player in the top 50. Kpakio was 62nd best.
- Will Pysgod was #2 in blocks per 90.
- Rubin was #1 in possession won in the final 3rd. Tanner 7th. The next Cardiff player on the list is Isaak in 51st.
- Trott was 3rd in 'save percentage' with 70% of saves made. This is as good as any Premier league player stats vs. stats with Donarumma on 71% at 1st.
- Salech is 24th in Fouls Conceded. I'd imagine he'll be annoyed with that!
- We were nowhere near the Yellow and Red card leaderboards.

Some great team stats in there. BBM ball by in large bossed the division. Defo need to sort out those set peices though. A few extra headed goals could make quite the difference to our league placing next season.
NG the stand out for us then unsurprisingly with some great stats for Rubin too. How anyone can say he doesn't do enough without the ball is anyone's guess (come on Bellars, look beyond the awkward 6 "5 frame and give the lad a chance man!). Robbo too pretty lethal with his stat's.
Cheers for posting...a nice change to all the gloomy political stuff that has been on here lately.

Thanks for posting, interesting to read.
Shows how successful we were in so many different metrics. Especially when there were people moaning that we weren't good at that or we weren't good at this. Shows they were wrong about that.
For balance, should also say I was wrong about Rubin this season. Those stats show he was one of the better players. Hopefully he can do it in the Championship.
This is also a reminder to some that it's a 46 game season. So if things don't go to plan in the first couple of games (like Port Vale) in this upcoming season, don't lose your heads.

No surprise to anyone who's seen us attempt a corner that we were one of the worse teams at set pieces.
Other than that we were overall an awesome team and but for Salech's injury he would have scored over 20 goals.

It's always interesting to dive into the stats. They can also be misleading, but you always get a surprise. Tanner was another one who got alot of stick and I understand why as there are alot of errors; you can't deny his contributions though.
The dribble one got me thinking also. Do we need additions who can run with the ball, or is it a reflection on BBM's style of passing (Doku for Man City is 2nd in the prem and Cherki is 9th, for a comparator of style with BBM's style being based off the Pep way)?

Thanks for posting SB1927.
I’m not big on stats but that was interesting reading.
Still we get the usual culprits on here moaning though - ‘tippy tappy, back to the goalie, shoot more’, etc, etc
Happy to see Rubin recognised on there as most professional pundits, opposition fans and managers rate him but there’s still some haters here that can’t be proved wrong.
