Terrible news but glad to hear he is conscious and doing well apparently. He was able to walk to the ambulance himself, seems like the pacemaker did it's job for him.

But not good after what he went through before.

I think professional football should stop players playing once they have been what happened to him.

Everyone derives a ‘second chance’ if the medical people say it’s okay, but happening a second time surely has to put his future as a professional footballer in considerable doubt?

I wish Christian Eriksen a full recovery going forward, though. He’s a top man and a great player!

Ned

Like me,he has an ICD (Implanted Cardioverter Defibrillator) inserted due to having a Cardiac Arrest.

It is not a pacemaker (the article uses both names) but Defibrillators can carry out the same functions as a pacemaker by regulating the heart rhythm but also shocks the heart back into beating after being stopped by a Cardiac Arrest, which a pacemaker cannot do.

I have had mine for nearly 4 years now. Touch wood mine has not gone off but it is linked wirelessly to a monitor next to my bed which sends information to the hospital so they can monitor what is happening to your heart.

I have been called in a couple of times when there has been any cause for concern, but as I said, my ICD has never actually had to give me a shock which apparently is like being kicked in the chest! You can sometimes feel unwell after.

I obviously had a shock from an external defibrillator when I collapsed, but I cannot remember it. Actually it took 3 attempts.

His ICD presumably gave him a shock.

Thanks Elwood, I didn't know a lot of that.

I thought it was a pacemaker he had but given what you've said about an ICD, I would say you're probably right that it gave him a shock.

Hope your health is well now :thumbright:

"Christian is doing well and walked off the pitch by himself," said Denmark's national team doctor Morten Boesen.

"As I see it, the pacemaker responded as it should. He was briefly unconscious, but regained consciousness very quickly, and we were quickly in contact with him.

"He will now undergo further examinations at the hospital to determine what caused the incident."

The ICD allowed Eriksen to resume his playing career with Brentford in 2022 - eight months after his collapse at the Euros - before he spent three years with Manchester United.

After joining Wolfsburg last summer, he played 34 games for the German Bundesliga club during the 2025-26 season and was making his 151st international appearance for Denmark when he collapsed.

"We are in ongoing contact with him and the doctors at the hospital," Boesen added.

"But Christian is doing well, and he asked me to send his regards to all the players and tell them that he was OK."
