LINCOLN APPOINT 2 HEAD COACHES

Lincoln City have appointed 2 joint head coaches to replace the departing Michael Skubala, who has joined Bristol City following the Imps’ promotion to the Championship…

Tom Shaw and Chris Cohen were the joint assistant head coaches to Skubala during his time at the club, and have now got the joint responsibility of leading the team out in the Championship for the first time in 60 years

Sporting director Jez George said:

“I have experienced working with Danny and Nicky Cowley, who as brothers were as close as you could get to head coaches and when we discussed the way in which this will operate with Chris and Tom, it was disingenuous to portray the relationship as head coach and assistant as it is genuinely a 50/50 partnership.

They have worked together, as equals, for two years and will continue to do so. Therefore, they are both our head coaches, and they will operate in the same way as last season except they will also now have ultimate responsibility, between them, on selecting the team.”

Cardiff City have had at least two notable periods with joint managers

In March 1984, after manager Len Ashurst left, Jimmy Goodfellow and Jimmy Mullen were appointed as joint caretaker managers for the remainder of the season. Goodfellow was then given the manager’s job outright at the end of that campaign.

In September–October 2014, following the departure of Ole Gunnar Solskjær, former Cardiff players Scott Young and Danny Gabbidon took charge together on a caretaker basis before Russell Slade was appointed permanently.

Neither pairing could be deemed a ‘success’ in reality

I think Lincoln did this before with the Cowley brothers, it worked well for a while.
