“ What will he do or what will be BBM do? “

Thu May 28, 2026 12:11 pm

Kevin Phillips has stated “Cardiff should want him and fight to keep him.”

Callum Robinson :

Robinson endured a frustrating campaign by his own admission last season as Cardiff won promotion back to the Championship, with the experienced forward often finding himself down the pecking order and used primarily from the bench.

The 31-year-old still managed eight goals in 40 League One appearances, despite the majority of those outings coming as a substitute,it felt like many times Robinson was not part of the first team.

With a year left on his contract and now promoted back to full wages, not many clubs will want to pay £24,000 a week and he is above Murphy’s budget.

The chief-striker status of Yousef Salech has raised fresh questions about Robinson’s role moving forward.

Salech hit 24 goals in 63 games across the Championship and League One for Cardiff and is widely expected to lead the line for Brian Barry-Murphy’s side in the second tier next term.

I’ve been told that Callum Robinson will likely stay next season and his restrictive injury issues from this season have been sorted

If so, a fit and hungry Calum Robinson will be a big asset to club and team on and off the pitch! :ayatollah:

Totally agree Chris, we would not be able to offload him on those wages anyway.

He's seemed a very positive figure in the camp, and a popular player with his teammates and fans alike

Try and get rid of him. He's too old and not good enough.

If he stays because nobody will pay his wages then he will hardly play at all.

Yousef Salech averaged a goal every 169 minutes last season.
Calum Robinson averaged a goal every 148 minutes last season.
So who is the best striker ?

Yousef Salech because he can handle more minutes, links play better and is just a better player.

Mark,

If you give Robinson Respect he’s gives it back 3 times over.

Very positive and very well liked by everyone.

Yes indeed, and he was one of the two (Wintle the other and was exiled for a year as a result) who stood up to Erol Bulut and then Omar Riza!

Credit to him for that! IMHO, that showed leadership, responsibility, camaraderie, and a selfless concern for others around him! :ayatollah:

Sorry Chris but I can't agree.

Can't keep players just because they're good in the dressing room, especially with the money he's on.

I would let him go on a free transfer just to get him off the wage bill. Not needed.

Re: “ What will he do or what will be BBM do? “

I would keep until we at least find another striker otherwise if salec finds himself off long term again it's,who do we have as a back up.
But I agree that he cannot do 90 mins regular, his legs have gone like ramsey, he has lost his turn of speed and in the championship that's not got good at all a slow ponderious striker .
He is ok as a 20/30 min sub but an expensive one, personally I would .much prefer a hungry young striker with a point to prove,we cannot carry anyone this coming season.

.sadly also when he comes on as a sub, I don' t get any feeling he is going to change the game, he has done,
but his work rate is so poor, unless it's put within a foot of him he just cannot be bothered it seems which is not what we need in the championship.

Jesus , didn’t realise he was on that much money a week ,
I think he will be useful this season , he has a nack to be in right place right time , experienced , can do the little flick ons to set up goals , I think he’s needed ,
Remember he set up salechs header when we needed tha win :bluebird:

Great stats

Yes he's on very high wages but that's not his fault. I've always liked him and he does seem to love Cardiff. Hopefully if his injury concern is now sorted as posted above by Sven in this thread, then he can do a job for us this coming season.

Re: “ What will he do or what will be BBM do? “

Thu May 28, 2026 7:36 pm

He’s got a contract that was agreed by the club. He’s a quality player and gives 100% for us on and off the pitch. It’s one thing to think like championship manager but in the real world he’s our player. If bbm is happy to have him around and Callum continues to be the professional he is. Then I’m not sure what the fuss is about. The wages are a moot point. They have been agreed. What’s important is his attitude and application

Re: “ What will he do or what will be BBM do? “

Thu May 28, 2026 7:38 pm

I'd love Swansea for his contract !!!

And that's the problem, no well-run Championship club is going to come in for him, and no L1 could match his salary here. So we are stuck with him unless we give him a big sweetener.

Exactly.

And if he was the world beater that some say he is then we'd be inundated with bids for him - same goes for Rubin.

Ned, he was seemingly carrying an injury for most of last season that wasn’t widely broadcast, so we could see a fit and refreshed Calum Robinson for the new season

For me, a ‘Club Captain’ role is important at any club; someone who can guide, cajole, and influence the younger players, whilst playing an active role on the pitch

Back in the day, Richie Morgan, until Dave Jones our highest finishing manager with 9th in the old 2nd Division (now Championship), did this role and he was also an important player on the pitch. Massively respected by those around him

Calum Robinson could be that person for our youngsters now, so it’s a ‘stay’ for me, but as always I respect your views! :ayatollah:

This is null and void why would he go anywhere when he's being paid so well. Nobody is going to come in for him on the wages he's on free transfer or not. We'd have to pay a huge portion of his wages to offload him and it's not like he can't play a part. Is he on too much? Yes, but we have other guys in that category too Chambers, Turnbull, etc I don't know why Robbo seems to get all the attention, he scored when he came on and BBM was always full of praise

Your dislike of CR47 comes across in spades Worcester. What's he done to provoke this antipathy? In terms of what certain players have given to City, I can think of way worse.

We have had some horrors from abroad, we found some striker in Spain contributed nothing infact quite a few strikers who have done nothing.
We have been told he was carrying an injury all season and will be clear of it this coming season we shall see, but I still think his legs have gone like ransey.

CR47 has demonstrated for years that he's a more than capable Championship player and even has Premiership football on his CV (WBA). As for Ruben, if he doesn't front up and grab his chance to prove his Championship credentials now, he never will.

Fair point. I was probably a bit harsh about Robinson.

I don't personally feel he has much to offer now but he does have credentials, as you say.
