As said on another thread, Pep Guardiola looks to be leaving Manchester City.
A lot of debate about who is the best manager we've seen in Britain between Pep and Alex Ferguson.
My opinion is it's Sir Alex, mainly because he did it over a longer time period and constantly refreshed his squad. Also what he did with Aberdeen.

Without a doubt it was Sir Alex. Would be surprised if there was much debate.

Longevity, titles, built his teams from youth with less money and kept it up for 20+ years; I agree, no real debate!

Sir Alex Ferguson without a doubt.
Guardiola has bought his trophies

Pep changed football

Sir Alex was untouchable as a manager in terms of his tactics and the urge to win games.
Pep is similar but if he would overtake Sir Alex then he would need more years in the Premier League...which of course he is not.
My list of best PL managers of all time:
1. Sir Alex
2. Pep Guardiola
3. Jose Mourinho
4. Arsene Wenger

It's a close one but just say Fergie
I can't see pep winning the SPL with Aberdeen
Pep is good as long as he has financial backing
Pep plays the more attractive football but Fergie was better at working with what he had

I’m going to lean towards Pep Guardiola.
Tactical Revolution and Influence. Pep fundamentally transformed how football is played globally.
Systemic Impact: Pep popularised the modern "Tiki-Taka" passing style, refined the "False 9" role, and pioneered inverted full-backs. His tactical DNA has been adopted by amateur and professional teams worldwide.
La Liga, Bundesliga, and Premier League: Pep broke points records in Spain, Germany, and England, proving his footballing philosophy is universally applicable.
Doesn’t matter about the money argument, Fergie broke the transfer record multiple times at Man Utd.
Ferguson spent the vast majority of his elite career in one environment (the English top flight), meaning he never had to adapt his style to entirely different domestic football cultures.

He also won the Scottish Cup with St Mirren

I'd watch a Fergie team over a Pep team for attractive football any day. The best football in the prem was played under Wenger they kept the ball but passing was always rapid and usually one touch

I prefer old school 4-4-2 football so I agree with you there

Clough & Taylor.

Great question. Arguably they met at best vs best when Peps Barca beat Fergies Man Utd in Wembley where Pep came out 3-1 winner that day.
Look at both starting 11's, I loved this era of football!!!:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2011_UEFA ... ague_final I don't see the finance as an argument as Fergie bought many a title. Both have the ability to know when to move on a superstar and re-build.
I voted Fergie as it's what first came to mind. To constantly reinvent the same team and turn the club into a global force over that length of time was special.
Having said that, I don't know if any other manager has spawned so many successful managers as Pep. His influence both on the pitch and on the sidelines has been second to none. Seeing teams in league 2 setting up like Pep's Barca is equally bonkers as impressive.
I wonder where he'll go next?

They have to be in the mix. Clough took two mid ranking clubs from the Second Division - that's the Championship for you youngsters

to take the First Division title as well as win two European Cups. Unbelievable achievement.

Agree for the same reasons, Pep had some outstanding top money signings, but Fergie built four teams, and kept going for such a long time. He was also able to kick out big names before they ruined the dressing room and had too much power.

He should take a year out, shouldn't he, but I suppose he could have any job he fancies.

Clough was a brilliant manager and did an unbelievable job at both Forest and Derby.
But I wouldn't include him in the conversation purely because he didn't win as much domestic titles, albeit he was at smaller clubs.
English top tier titles:
Ferguson - 13 (plus three in Scotland)
Guardiola - 6 (plus three with Barcelona and three with Bayern)
Clough does have the same amount of European Cups/Champions League as Ferguson (2), but Guardiola has 3.
Ferguson also won five FA Cups, Guardiola has 3.

Wouldn't be surprised if he takes some time out and then takes an international job, obviously you'd assume Spain would be his preference if it became available.

Sir Alex wins this one.
For me, United played more exciting style of football.
He brought in good players and made them better over a much longer period.
Also, the 'class of 92' players made up of young British talent really were something special, allowing him to build a great team around.
Pep always had the luxury of recruiting some of the world's best talent with all the Arab money at his disposal.
