Joel Bagan news emerges after first senior call-up
Joel Bagan has been forced to withdraw from the Republic of Irelan squad after suffering an injury blow just days after receiving his maiden senior call-up.
The Cardiff City defender had been set to join up with Heimir Hallgrimsson’s squad for the upcoming friendly against Grenada in Spain, marking a significant milestone in his career after previously representing Ireland at under-21 level.
However, the 24-year-old has now pulled out of the squad after sustaining an injury which required a scan earlier this week.
Bagan’s withdrawal was confirmed by the Football Association of Ireland on Friday, with Newcastle United teenager Rory Finneran called up as his replacement alongside Ipswich Town winger Kasey McAteer, who has also withdrawn through injury.
The setback comes amid uncertainty at club level for Bagan, whose future at Cardiff remains unresolved ahead of the summer transfer window.
The left-back is out of contract this summer after a stellar season which saw him named in the League One team of the season.

Wouldn't be surprised if he considers leaving if it's true that Southampton are interested.
That's where he started his career.
