As this is primarily a sports forum, I'd be interested to hear wha do Reform voters think of the policy Dan Thomas announced in the debate on Wednesday that they would cut spending on sport?

This table shows the spending on sport in Wales by the previous Labour government and Reform UK want to cut it!

Here's one...
Plaid = Labour. Since it's founding the Senedd has had a different voting system to Westminster's first past the post. The old system and the new one for this election is like one most European use. This means that you rarely (virtually impossible) have one party in complete control. This means parties have to work together to get things done. This is what Plaid and the Lib Dems have done in Wales on occasions. Plaid demanded free school meals for primary children in return for their support.
This also means of course that it is very unlikely Reform will gain power as no one will work with them regardless if they gain most seats.

With so many Reform supporters on this forum, I'd really like to know which of Reform's policies they support?

Purely immigration which Reform in Wales would have absolutely no control over.

They also want to stop the South Wales Metro project which is just about one of the only objectively good things Welsh Labour has introduced.

These are the reform policies I support, but if you were that interested you could have checked out their Welsh Manifesto:

1.CUT YOUR TAXES AND PUT MONEY BACK IN YOUR POCKET.
We will cut 1p off every pound on all bands of Welsh income tax
by the end of our term to put more money into your pocket. We
will scrap Net Zero to end wasteful subsidies, make it easier to
build infrastructure, and kickstart the Welsh economy.

2.SCRAP BLANKET 20MPH LIMITS.
Labour’s war on motorists has caused untold damage to the
Welsh economy. We will restore sanity to Welsh roads by
abolishing the default 20mph policy in urban areas.

3.PUT WELSH PEOPLE FIRST.
We will end the so-called ‘Nation of Sanctuary’ policy. We will
stop the use of migrant hotels in our communities. We will scrap
international aid, and spend your taxes at home, in Wales. We
will prioritise Welsh men and women for social housing.

4.BUILD WALES FOR THE FUTURE.
Wales has suffered from a lack of investment for decades and
our infrastructure is crumbling. We will build the M4 relief
road, upgrade the A55 North Wales expressway, and fast
track A470 upgrades. We will build houses in the right places
and launch a modern industrial strategy, creating jobs and
unlocking investment.

5.BACK WELSH FARMERS.
We will reform the Sustainable Farming Scheme to let farmers
farm, protect the rural way of life, and put Welsh farmers and
our rural communities at the heart of our decision-making.

There you go, now you are enlightened. :bluebird:

It’s all well you asking others views/explanations and saying there are a (quote) “lot of untruths out there” but you still haven’t responded to a number of points made to you in posts above, including the one where I pointed out that Labour closed a lot more mines than the Conservatives

I will accept that Thatcher’s ‘curbing of the unions cuts’ were the most deliberate, decisive, and harshest

I see still no answer off any labour or plaid ,why are the valleys still one of the most impoverished places in the UK after 27 years of labour and plaid, it's funny how ratty labour are getting over reform, they think they have a god dam right to run without any opposition and keep all their jobs ,a democratic society doesn't work like that so suck it up ,like people have had to with 27 years of labour and plaid

Interesting.
Cut Taxes - If taxes are cut Wales will have even less money to fund our NHS, Schools etc.

20 mph - Haa saved countless lives as the data shows. Just look at the accident information from somewhere like the Gabalfa Roundabout. Your insurance premium has come down. It's also interesting how Reform run Kent Count Council are planning to implement 20mph in their towns.

Nation of Sactuary myth - This was put in place to help Ukranian refugees settle in Wales. Wales has no power over immigration.

Build Wales for the Future - You're in dreamland if you think you're going to do this and cut taxes.

You last point on Farms I don't disagree with, but if you think Reform ASs parachuted in from England have an understanding of Welsh rural affairs dream on.

It really isn’t as simple as that re less tax income = less money to spend on other things, so maybe you’re in a green and yellow utopia yourself?

The bigger issue is ‘how and what on’ gathered revenues are spent on and I’ll give you a few examples of pure waste (IMHO) and which Plaid will further enforce…

The expansion of the Senedd from 60 to 96 members is a major waste of public funds, as the project requires a £19m budget increase for 2026-27 to cover salaries and staff for the extra 36 members

Renovation of the debating chamber to accommodate these extra politicians is estimated to cost taxpayers over £4.2m (a self-serving folly)

The 20mph Speed Limit Implementation, where over £35 million (or c.£20 per taxed person)was spent on the rollout ofpoorly thought-out and controversial ‘blanket’ project

£155.5 million was lost to Wales due to the Welsh Government's failure to spend it, forcing it to be returned to the UK Treasury

The nationalisation and continued public funding of Cardiff Airport, which has cost taxpayers over £225 million so far

The massive rise in Public Sector DEI Roles, where Transport for Wales (TfW), a public body, was criticised for spending over £780,000 on Diversity, Equality and Inclusion (DEI) roles over five years. And this is not just confined to them; it’s across the ‘public’ board

Changing millions of signs/pamphlets/items so that Welsh is ‘on top’ in a mainly English speaking nation (another pure idealistic wasteful folly)

Is that a good start or shall I continue? :ayatollah:

When one considers the NHS budget for Wales is over 12 billion per year. you projected cuts would keep the NHS going for maybe a month.
Only time will tell if the increase in Senedd members is a good thing. If it leads to a more effective government and scrutinising and implementation then it could be money well spent.

Your point on the Welsh language does not warrant an answer. You are obviously a lost soul who does not appreciate the language of Wales and the original language of Britain. You may ask yourself why Wales is now as you say a mainly English speaking nation when not that long ago over 90% of our population spoke the language.

The higher you raise taxes, the less you collect. The Laffer curve proves theres an optimum level, we passed that decades ago.
Reform will cut our public sector and civil service. On a UK level they’ll stop the boats, increase the VAT threshold, scrap business rates for independent high street businesses, levy a 4% tax on Amazon and other online suppliers. Scrap the foreign aid grift.
BTW I’d love to know what economic and trade benefits the Welsh language brings?

:bluebird:

Exactly this, plus doing away with the absolute crazy net zero policies

It really isn’t as simple as that (re less tax income = less money to spend on other things)

Welsh was spoken in central Scotland, should it be forced on Scots as well?

These are the reform policies I support, but if you were that interested you could have checked out their Welsh Manifesto:

1.CUT YOUR TAXES AND PUT MONEY BACK IN YOUR POCKET.
We will cut 1p off every pound on all bands of Welsh income tax
by the end of our term to put more money into your pocket. We
will scrap Net Zero to end wasteful subsidies, make it easier to
build infrastructure, and kickstart the Welsh economy.

2.SCRAP BLANKET 20MPH LIMITS.

TBF the Welsh language is not forced on anybody. This is Wales remember and Wales does have its own language that you can use or learn, only if you want to. Its also likeky to be the oldest living language in Europe and I'm all for keeping it alive as part of our long heritage.

Will personally be delighted when Labour finally get booted out of Wales. 27 years of autocracy, stagnation, flagrant wasting of tax payers resources, absolutely hopeless politicians (e.g. Born Guessing - remember him!?) - I think a change is well overdue and needed.

I think since Carwyn Jones stepped down , Welsh Labour has been shocking

Yes the quality of Drakeford , Vaughan Gething and now Eluned Morgan has been rubbish but that goes across the board .....Andrew RT Davies the former conservative leader is nothing but a farmer windbag and the welsh liberal leader is just totally uninspiring

Personally I hope that Plaid win the most seats and work with all the other parties ......I am not voting Plaid because I support Independence .....they will need to drop that to stay in power ......but with Labour and the Liberals being so crap at the moment the choice appears to be Plaid or Farages lot ......and I will not vote for them

This talk of stopping the nation of sanctuary is just bullshit from reform ......there are nations of sanctuary funded by uk government in Scotland , Wales , Northern Ireland and England ......the welsh government chose that name which has shot themself in the foot .....if it had been called the refugee resettlement scheme ......which is what it is .....its not throwing houses and benefits at immigrants ......its helping them with learning english , learning about british culture , laws , taxes etc

Welsh politicans problem is that most of them are completely incompetent

I couldnt believe Llinos Medi , the Anglesey MP on Question Time last year who must have recruited thousands of people into reform talking nonsense about immigration rather than sensible discussion

:bluebird:

Exactly this, plus doing away with the absolute crazy net zero policies

It really isn’t as simple as that (re less tax income = less money to spend on other things)

   (on the ‘lost soul’ bit) and I feel for you, if that’s the best response!

I am pretty adept with the Welsh language and my point wasn’t about the Welsh language itself, just the expense of changing words from the top to the bottom and vice versa. Get it right, please!

What I do have is a strong interest in history and how/why Wales became what it is today and I appreciate that things are not as simple as ‘I’m Welsh, so I must be insular and inward thinking

Each to their own but you appear to have a narrow mind that cannot or will not see there is always another picture
This is OUR club, not Vincent Tan’s! He is a temporary custodian and will be judged on the state he leaves us in when he leaves!

£35m on speed limit has already paid itself back and then some taking into account the average costs of car collisions.

So where’s the statistics for fewer collisions, where’s the figures for less deaths, thanks to the 20 mph speed limit.

Agree or not, its one of the few actual facts in this thread...

What impact has 20mph had on road safety in Wales? https://share.google/CNjUiOtHJ2V43x6Wx

Number of cars on our roads has reduced significantly , since working from home has been introduced. Without factoring that in, the stats are meaningless.

Reform.
Purely a tactical vote to hopefully halt Plaid aka The Welsh Green Party.
And this is done with a sour taste in my mouth.
As Nigel and his now left of centre party have lost all the policies and ideas that they once stood for.
Its Restore Britain and Rupert Lowe than can only get back the Britain we once had.
The next General election is where they will be ready and we finally get a party that is there for the British public.

It’s sad none of them tell the truth.

You can all argue until you’re blue in the face, fact is, 90% of “promises” are undelivered once in power, because they realise the fictional numbers they worked it out on are a bag of wank.

I’m voting plaid, I like party’s which is what Plaid is, and I like wales, which is the second part of their name. I’m not in the know at all, although I’ve been bombarded by reform and can’t see how that will be any better than labour

I just can't wrap my head around a party who dont give a damn for women's safety , having 2 young daughters who go to swimming lessons 3 times a week knowing plaid are happy for men to use the same changing rooms is a deal breaker for me and is the major reason I could never vote for them

My mind has been made up for some time .

Time for change .

Labour has failed miserably.

Plaid are Labour in disguise conning welsh voters with red dragon flags , don't forget they have played a role in this mess by propping up Labour for years...

Tories are a busted flush.

The final nail in the coffin for me was the introduction of more Welsh Assembly members , costing millions with voters not having having a say where those millions should be spent. I for one would want more health workers than £19m worth of crap Assembly members and associated costs , where was our say, something like this should have been put to us as a referendum choice ????

Fact:
Expanding the Senedd from 60 to 96 members in 2026 is projected to cost an additional £12.7 million for salaries, staff, and allowances in 2026-27. Total running costs will rise by approximately £19m, including £4.5m for election costs and increased structural expenses
