The terms of Cardiff’s deal to bring the Bermudian international to South Wales from FC Copenhagen put Brian Barry-Murphy’s side in with a good chance of signing their shot-stopper permanently, with a buy option included in the deal for the former AFC Wimbledon man.
However, their chances of reaching a deal to sign Trott have been scuppered, with reports from Danish outlet Tipsbladet stating that the 27-year-old has rejected an offer from his current side to consider other offers. City are believed to be activating the buy clause in the deal, which stands at €1.8 million (£1.57 million), but are now facing a wait for Trott to decide his future.
It comes after reports from Pete O’Rourke earlier in the week that other Championship sides were considering a move for Cardiff’s current number one, in which it was stated that the hierarchy at the Bluebirds were struggling to reach a deal to retain their loanee. Tipsbladet have also stated that in addition to a move elsewhere, the goalkeeper is also considering staying with Copenhagen and try and fight for a place in the first team after losing his place to Croatian international Dominik Kotarski, with his deal in the Danish capital running until 2028.

Sounds like he's provisionally rejected our contract offer so he can look at other options, including maybe returning to Copenhagen.
Want him to stay but the ball is in his court.
Would hope that BBM will have other potential options to bring in as a GK on maybe another loan, if he does go elsewhere.

This is where the board should be creating an environment where players want to sign for us. The current situation of uncertainty and poor leadership does the complete opposite. Why would you want to sign for Cardiff under the leadership of the 3 clowns. I would certainly consider my options. It would be a shame if he's doesn't sign for us, but he needs to do what's best for him and his family.
The board need to get their act together NOW! or sell the club to someone who wants to create an inclusive, positive environment and has an ambition to make the club an established premiership team.

Disappointing if it's correct.
The club was willing to give him an opportunity to show what he could do this season when there was obviously no rush from Championship teams to sign him.
However it's a short career and he can't be blamed for wanting to further his career for himself and his family whilst things are going well.
Hopefully we'll see the other two keepers given a chance over the last three games.

Cannot believe we would be sticking to the same offer he had before he kicked a ball, his value has obviously been raised by his performances,
if he goes to another championship club that tells me nothing has changed,
he is worth double what we offered its obvious the lad has helped us get promoted in a big way I will be fumming if he goes to a rival.

He's good but if a player doesn't want to stay then move on quickly

Not a very positive start to our upcoming Championship season. Easy to blame dumb, dumber and really dumb but going on past performances this club needs to step up to the mark for once.

I honestly don’t believe we have offered a good contract for the Championship and I don’t believe we ever intended to pay £1.5mill for him
Tue Apr 21, 2026 12:57 pm
Just hope that if he doesnt sign for us he doesnt go to another championship club. That would be sickening.
Hope in that instance he goes back home to Copenhagen

In the hope he's not being greedy with his demands, come on club/Tan, pay the man what he's worth. You ain't gonna get much better than Trott. What other goalkeeper would look as comfortable playing the risky possession based game that we do.

What contract was he offered? My understanding was that only the fee was agreed (with Copenhagen not Trott himself)
Early days yet and after the season he has had, I don’t blame him for holding out for the best possible deal; and it will maybe show the club’s ambition

They have not even discussed personal terms yet
Tue Apr 21, 2026 1:52 pm
This was always going to happen! He knows his worth as risen so wouldn't surprise me if other clubs sounded his agent out as to what they would offer him in wages! People can bad mouth the club and blame them but player holds the initiative and other clubs would offer more wages than city could i garauntee club in wrong if offered what others probably have after all hes only a GK his parent club won't complain as he's worth 5m+ I suspect.... if people think trotts a problem how about the youngsters on low contracts? Will club offer them bigger wages now in championship after all can't keep on div 1 wages in championship....... Robinson is likely to go.... personally city should pay trott as £1.5m is cheap so wages can make up the transfer fee they're not paying..

Seems to me this is yet more agent shenanigans, either his agent or maybe even his parent club seeing what other offers might come in for him given that the price with us is already baked in and agreed upon. I'm guessing this has not come from anyone at CCFC or from Trott himself but from others looking to cause a rift & make more money for themselves. Even Anis is saying that personal terms haven't been discussed yet which would also point to my theory.
There's plenty to blame the 3 clowns for and this isn't anything to do with them.

As much as I want the current board and Tan to do one i would say that the only environment where players want to sign is the contract. Mickey mouse could be in charge but if he offers Trott the (reportedly) £30K he's after then he'll sign in a flash. As you say, he's keeping his options open and that's his perogative.

I think there’s a reason we brought in another keeper in January. We never intended to keep Trott and pay 1.5m.

There was a reason. Alnwick and Horvath left so we needed a third goalkeeper.

Chris, it's also ignorant of the facts.
We tried to sign Tyrer in the summer after Trott came in but Everton wanted to keep him for a few months.
It was always about us having three first team goalkeepers.

Hope he stays but that's up to the club to pay the fee - Let's not forget the young lad at Man City we were linked with on loan

Ned, you’re spot on!
Those of us who actually take notice were aware of that!

While people are concentrated on trott I still think that there's other players that are vulnerable to being snatched from club? Began latest Ipswich Sunderland rumoured to be interested...

Wintle and NG should be the first 2 to sort imo.
