About Port Vale

Port Vale made their return to the third tier this season, having finished 2nd in League Two last season.

Their last season at this level was in 2023/24.

They are currently 23rd with 38 points from 41 games. They will be relegated if they don't win this match.

Club Connections

Jak Alnwick obviously played for us but he also had a spell at Port Vale between 2015 and 2017, making over 60 league appearances.

The Opposition's Manager

Jon Brady has been Port Vale manager since January. They have seen an upturn in form since his arrival but the points difference was too much for him to realistically save them from relegation. He also took them to the quarter finals of the FA Cup.

He was previously in charge of Northampton, where he got them promoted from League Two in 2023.

Opposition Dangerous Players

It's been a tough season for Port Vale, but Ben Waine made national headlines when he scored two winners in their FA Cup run - against Bristol City and Sunderland.

Cameron Humphreys is an experienced defender at this level.

Ethon Archer scored twice in their recent 3-1 win at Peterborough. That takes him to three league goals since he signed on loan from Luton in January.

Referee

David Rock will take charge of this game.

He has refereed 32 games this season, showing 149 yellow cards - an average of 4.66 per game. He has also shown 3 red cards.

This is the third Cardiff City game he's refereed this season, having also been in charge for our away wins at Wimbledon and Bradford.

Most of his games this season have been in League One, with 17. The others were 13 in League Two and 2 in the Carabao Cup.

Head To Head - Last Five Meetings

We have won four of our last five against Port Vale.

The one we didn't win was the most recent, the 0-0 draw at Vale Park in August.

Team News - Predicted Line-Ups

Cardiff City: Trott, Ng, Lawlor, Osho, Bagan, Wintle, Robertson, R Colwill, Tanner, Willock, Kellyman

Port Vale: Gauci, Hernandez, Magloire, Hall, Campbell, Headley, Croasdale, Shipley, Ward, Sherif, Archer

Last Game

We won 3-1 at Reading on Saturday to secure promotion to the Championship.

Port Vale play at home to Wigan on Sunday.

Match Odds

Cardiff City - 1/4
Port Vale - 8/1
Draw - 5/1

I hope we do Exeter a favour and don’t head to
The beach early. Keep the pressure on and keep building for next season.

The odds are overwhelmingly in our favour for this game.

But I'm sure the players will be enjoying themselves for the next couple of nights, and rightly so.

So it depends how hungover they are by Wednesday

Port Vale drew at home to Wigan yesterday.

Their relegation will be confirmed unless they beat us.

Re: LATEST NEWS " CARDIFF CITY v PORT VALE " MATCH THREAD

Mon Apr 20, 2026 11:58 pm

Port Vale were left on the brink of relegation to League Two following a lacklustre goalless draw at home to Wigan.

The hosts turned in another toothless display in front of goal and never looked like getting the victory they needed.

Vale must now win all of their four remaining fixtures and hope Leyton Orient and AFC Wimbledon fail to pick up the points they need for survival.

“I am not frustrated with the way we played or the effort, but I am frustrated we didn’t put the ball in the back of the net,” said Brady.

“It was a problem before I came in and it is still a problem. We have not scored enough goals this season to try and stay up with.

“We had a couple of chances. A little bit more care is needed. We are trying to work on things. It is just fine margins at the moment and frustrating all around.

“I am pleased with the effort, though, you can’t ask for more than that. We came in and knew it was a tough task to stay up because we were adrift.

“We wanted to be competitive and catch the next team and so on. We always go into the next game trying to win it. We have three away games that are big challenges.

“If we win all our games and those above don’t then we can stay up, but we know it’s a tall task. We won’t give in because the players have their personal pride and we want to win games.”

Come outside earlier than usual for a ciggy . Jesus port vale are dreadful yet could have scored. Tip tap tip tap although the no width is showing except the full backs trying to push on. It's like a relegation atmosphere not a promotion atmosphere. I've never been in such a shit atmosphere ground for a team being promoted unbelievable

Crowd has been poor for years - not just this season.

I think the atmosphere is a combination things. Number one both teams are poor and playing at a snails pace. Port vale are awful and we are just passing it around. I think if we get a couple of wingers on in the second half and run at them a bit it will all wake up. Fantastic season this year but even I’m a bit flat tonight.
