"Injured" keepers

Sun Apr 12, 2026 11:50 am

This really grinds my gears.

Halfway through each half in virtually every game now one goalie or the other will sit on his arse pretending to need treatment whilst the rest of the team jog over to the sidelines for some coaching.

I hate it. It's being used as a tactic to break up momentum or to give a side getting battered like Bolton were yesterday a chance to regroup. It's no coincidence that Bolton's best spell came between this articial break and half time. I had to laugh yesterday because all of the Bolton players started jogging to the touchline before their keeper even went down!

It's bollocks and the time never gets added on. We might as well make the game into four quarters rather than two halves.

It would be easy to stop it. I personally would make an outfield player leave the pitch for 30 seconds if the goalie is "injured" or better still, stop players heading to the touchline for extra coaching during the time the goalie is getting treated.

Any other ideas as to how to stop this cheating?

And I'm well aware that Trott did exactly the same thing halfway through the second half!

Only way to stop it is to say if any player is injured players are not allowed to go to tech area! If you just say player off 30 secs if keeper fake injury an outfield player will go down instead..... this started last season when premier manager sorted with strategic time out at a specific time in every match not just random games......
Obviously exception is a serious injury they cannot be faked... authorises well aware of what's happening and could have easily brought in a rule couple months ago.

I agree mate. Ridiculous.
A classic example was in second half when BBM and assistant were waving like mad to our keeper; when he saw them they imitated to go down, which he did, and then players from both sides went over for drinks and tactical talk.
The difficulty is that there’s nothing stopping players moving over to the catching area, but staying on pitch, to receive instructions.

I mentioned it in the match thread when it happened in the first half & their keeper just went down pretending to be injured when nobody was near him.

There was talk that next season the leagues are introducing a new rule that states if a keeper is injured and the physio has to come on then one outfield player has to leave the pitch, there also supposed to be implementing a one minute rule where anybody who leaves the pitch after treatment can comeback on after one minute instead of 30secs

Don't mind that we do it because everyone else is using it to their advantage, so we'd be losing out if we didn't.

But the authorities need to do something about it, I've no idea what that would be though.

I agree totally. It was just that I’ve never seen such a blatant one as that one yesterday. Most people around where I sit burst out laughing.

ha e to say that in the secobd galf yesterday lee riley called and indicated trott to go down so every team is doing it including us, but i agree i hate it and powers tgat be have to stop it. someone said that if goalkeepers require treatment when no foul has been committed a defender should be made to go off for 30 seconds instead.

Very easy solution. If the keeper goes down injured and needs treatment then he should go off for 30 seconds like outfield players.
