Some opposition fans and journalists appreciate him more than some of our own.

I've noticed it most of the season

Opposition fans have had nothing but praise for Rubin all season it's just some of ours that slate him

Even after yesterday some were still putting him down
I just don’t get it

Along with the usual slagging off their team their were a couple of comments on their forum praising Colwill.

Others were complimentary to us. Two in particular. Something along the lines of "Can we have another ball please Cardiff would let us touch theirs" and "Are we playing PSG?"

He did relatively well yesterday, good in the build up to attacks.

All I would say about opposition journalists/fans praising him is they don't watch him every week so don't have the same frustrations as our fans, we know how good he can be.

But I do find it strange that they've picked him out as outstanding, when there were players in our team who played better and had more of an impact. Maybe based on his reputation, often labelled one of the best players in the league.

These are historically league1/2 and lower teams. They generally don’t have much to compare with, and as mentioned they don’t have to put up with his inconsistency week after week. Very few on here think he’s any good I would say.

I absolutely love Rubin colwill and think he’s a fantastic talent. My experience this year, particularly before his injury was opposition fans after games saying ‘who was that number 10 you had…? He’s quality’

I think our fans get frustrated because of how good he can be and if he’s slightly below that we have a go. I genuinely believe his ceiling is very high and he could get to the top level. We are in such a good position with some of the youngsters and manager we have at the moment. Hopefully tan and co don’t mess it all up

I tend to go go by the opinions of fans who watch the players week in week out. From this forum he’s not viewed as an important player and not particularly having an impressive season even in league 1 by most on here. There’s the love affair that he’s a local boy that we can get caught up in, but he’s not even from Cardiff.

I get that and football is all about opinions. What I would say is that before his injury a few months ago he was one of the best players in the league. According to many city fans and also pundits who spend time watching and analysing the league. For me personally Justin my opinion he is the most gifted player in this league. Also his pressing and off the ball work is so good and rare for a flair player. Some fans agree and some don’t and that’s all good that’s what it’s about

It's pretty obvious why opposition fans notice Rubin, his touch and certain things he can do stand out like a sore thumb in the championship let alone league one. A victory yesterday doesn't wipe out his performances good and bad since he's been back though.

Rubin is pleasing on the eye when he moves with the ball and has that ability to drop a shoulder and drift away from players , that's what excites fans , people who say he's no good are either on the wind up or have literally no football knowledge, yes rubin isn't perfect if he was he wouldn't be playing for us but he has that bit of xfactor that gets people on the edge of there seats , I for one enjoy having him in our squad

Totally agree with this. Before his injury he was on course for league player of the year I believe. Saturday i thought he was inconsistent but it will take for him to move on somewhere become more of a bigger name/ player. For our fans to say why did we sell him he's a match winner/ best player etc. Same as ever fickle fanbase

Rated 11th best in the league by what is quite a reliable (and fair looking at the list) source.

I couldn't find a category for "But he's not even from Cardiff".

That's good considering he missed quite a few games through injury too

I've been saying for weeks that I wanted Rubin dropped as the Rubin Kellyman combo hasn't been working. That doesn't mean that Rubin isn't an obvious talent. I don't think anyone who's critical of Rubin has ever said he's some sort of donkey his touch is extraordinary. I think the majority of the board are very measured on Rubin. I have no idea if he's going to be anything more than he is now, what I do know is he won us a lot of points the first two months, got injured, we didn't particularly miss him and since he's returned our form is awful. My personal view is he should have been rotating with Kellyman and BBM has to take a chunk of the blame for that, but it is what it is

Re: "The outstanding R Colwill" M Report

That was my view exactly, rotated them, not play together, easing RC back.

Whether the Rubin fans or those who constantly criticise him are right or wrong, it is our manager's opinion that matters.
I get the impression that Rubin will be BBM's first choice as a number 10 in the Championship next season.
He saw enough of his quality in those early matches to realise his potential, despite his inconsistency since recovering from the mid season injury.

It is also true that a number of neutral match reports have often pointed out the influences of Rubin.
I often make a point of reading impartial match reports and he has often been praised.

I think he has unique qualities but is not consistent enough to move up to top level.
So we are unlikely to see any transfer bids.
But I certainly think he'll be one of the first players in BBM's team sheet next season.
That's what the regular critics have to accept!

Maybe I and most of this board are missing something. I don’t know. I’m not a big stat fan to be fair bit old skool. Like I said I’ll more interested in what the fans who see him week in and week out think, and with us lot he unfortunately is not setting the world alight yet as hoped he could.

I agree BBM looks at him as first name on the team sheet and to be honest I'm more than happy with that provided Salech is leading the line, that seems to work, the system we are playing without Salech hasn't worked with Rubin in it to a large degree.

As far as neutral match reports go like I've said before he's a unique, eye catching player. He's stood out in games against teams like Villa, the ability to step up isn't the issue as you've said it's consistency and parts of his game just aren't there. Look at the Bolton match report Rubin had a ok to good game he didn't run the show
