FAW Tier 1 Licenses

Thu Apr 09, 2026 10:19 am

The tier 1 licenses were awarded yesterday and it seems Colwyn Bay - who are currently 4th and aiming for Europe - have been denied. I think it means they'll be relegated automatically :o

Caerau Ely have also been denied and they were going for 3rd place and promotion to the top tier this weekend if results went their way

Subject to appeal of course

Is the Licensing thing a good or bad idea?

Yes its needed otherwise players play and change in substandard conditions....fans could find themselves watching game in dangerous environment ... maybe harsh on clubs but if they had ambitions to get to Europe through leagues they would know their grounds need to be at certain standard as not new rule.
Same things apply to efl clubs

I know nothing of Colwyn Bay but from my knowledge of the system I am surprised Colwyn Bay have missed miss out as they had one this year and know what is needed. My guess is that unless something has gone drastically wrong its probably something with the paperwork that they will get sorted before the appeal. There are a lot of hoops you have to jump through- some ridiculously OTT for football at this level.

That should apply to Colwyn Bay itself never mind the ground,
