Cardiff are facing a centre-back shortage for next weekend's League One match against promotion rivals Bolton

Cardiff City are facing a centre-back shortage for next weekend's League One match against promotion rivals Bolton Wanderers.

BBM: “We are a bit stretched in the centre-back, in fact quite stretched.”

With such a small squad,Murphy will have to dig deep and get players to play in other positions.

Bluebirds captain Calum Chambers was taken off at half-time during Monday's 1-1 draw at Peterborough United with a wrist injury.

Cardiff were already without Dylan Lawlor due to a toe injury sustained playing for Wales, while Gabriel Osho was serving the second game of a three-match suspension for the red card he was shown against Wycombe Wanderers last month.

BBM:

The full extent of Chambers' injury is not yet known, but head coach Brian Barry-Murphy said: "He damaged that quite badly. We'll have to get that scanned and there might be an issue there.

"We're a bit stretched in that area with Dylan injured as well. Perry [Ng, usually a right-back] did a great job stepping in.

"With Gabriel Osho suspended and Dylan and Calum injured, we're quite stretched there."

Lawlor's injury is not thought to be serious, with Barry-Murphy adding: "There's no fracture but he's been in discomfort and there's a bit of swelling, so he wasn't really close [to playing] today."

Cardiff are second in League One but have won only two of their past eight matches, cutting the gap between them and the chasing pack outside the automatic promotion places from 11 points to seven.

Still can't understand why Bellamy played Lawlor in a pointless friendly when he played 120 minutes a few days before, especially considering he's a young player.

We have to hope that the hand injury that forced Chambers off yesterday isn't too serious, but he did look in a lot of pain.

If chambers is out i wouldn't play ng at center back as I think bolton are strong on the wings and would give kpakio a torrid afternoon , I think I'd prefer to move bagan to center back alongside fish and play scanlon at left back

Agree! I’m a big supporter of Craig and would still like him here one day, but that was a poor decision in a (suddenly) unimportant game!

Fingers crossed for Saturday, as we need as balanced a team as we can get with round pegs in round holes! :ayatollah:

If Bellamy was in BBM's position he'd be fuming that an important player was injured in a meaningless kick about.

Storm in a teacup. Lawlor has a bruised toe. He travelled to Peterborough. I am sure he'll be fine Saturday.

Chambers will probably be okay as many players play with a cast covering their wrist.

Chambers' problem is not so much his wrist as the fact that he's slower than my 95 year old gran.

Put bagan with fish
then the loanee in bagan's place with perry ng as the right back
simples

maybe stretched but we have got goal scorers in the team and i am sure
they will try their hardest nonetheless to get the big win we need
