Cardiff City damages claim over Emiliano Sala death dismissed -

viewtopic.php?f=2&t=204226

Cardiff City's claim for more than £100m in compensation following the death of footballer Emiliano Sala has been dismissed.

Sala, 28, and pilot David Ibbotson died when the Piper Malibu plane carrying them crashed into the English Channel on the night of 21 January 2019.

The Argentine striker was on his way to join Cardiff City – then in the Premier League – from FC Nantes for a £15m transfer fee.

In the latest chapter of a long-running dispute, a French court tasked with ruling on whether the Welsh club was due compensation from Nantes for the loss of Sala has dismissed its claim on Monday.

Cardiff was claiming more than €120m (£104m) for loss of income and other damages, based on the belief that Sala could have kept the club in the Premier League.

The court has also ordered Cardiff City to pay about £400,000 in moral damages suffered by FC Nantes.

Surprised to read this in relation to McKay:

He is now working as an agent again, and appears in the FA's transaction lists since 2023 as representing Mohamed Said Benrahma, an Algerian midfielder who played for West Ham before transferring to Saudi club Neom SC last year.

Expecting Tan to have a meltdown in his statement in response to this.

But please, please - I really hope he leaves this alone now for good.

And obviously hope he actively now looks to sell the club to the right people.

A bit surprised to be honest, thought we’d at least get the transfer fee.

Wonder if the £100m claim was seen as taking the piss.

I wondered about that. They must have had dodgy info about the possible outcome OR is it still to be repaid by us in other ways.

That's it now surely. Tan knows where we stand and as there is no money coming our way it paves the way for him to sell

Having to pay nearly half a million might just tip tan over the edge.

We can only hope he sees this as the final straw and buggers off

But more likely to sell Lawlor for 400k to cover the costs he's that much of a clown

Ultimately club still gets hit with allegations like this though.

No matter the outcome regarding payments Cardiff City was NOT responsible for that flight.

Not surprised there

I said last week how can they prove that sala would have kept us up that season

That was all he had to go on to get the 100m it was never going to happen

People were comparing it to the Sheffield utd/westham situation all those years ago but it was nowhere near the same because Tevez actually scored the goals that sent them down when he wasn't supposed to be playing

Sala never kicked a ball for us

I thought the most he would get is the money back for the transfer but obviously he isn't getting that either

Genuine question and not looking for an argument but what do you think about Sala’s mother re: the case?

She’s been pretty scathing of Nantes and attended court today with City’s representatives

So sad the lives lost. Bottom line if Cardiff had dotted the i and crossed the t we would not be in this position. Another costly mistake, when you get a part time CEO and no director of football this is what happens.
