Which players are good enough for the Championship?

Wed Mar 18, 2026 11:58 am

If we go up, which of our current players do you think are definitely good enough for the Championship - including players on loan?

I would say:

Trott
Ng
Osho
Lawlor
Robertson
Both Colwills
Kellyman
Salech

A lot of maybes too. Can't judge Tyrer and Scanlon because haven't seen enough of them.

I'd defo add Ashford to that list, he's not played much recently but hes a quality player and has a big impact on games whenever he's on the pitch. Wintle too fits this style/formation so a big asset.

Undecided on whether Fish, Bagan and Kpakio should make the list coz they have been very hit and miss lately.

Turnball and Willock are good enough but they are non existent without the ball so it's more a case of do I want them in the championship with us.

Not many others jump out really who could just hit the ground running in the higher league.

Definitely add fish, kpakio, bagan, tanner. No way would I keep willock, Isaac davies, turnbull. wintle looks good in this division but I wouldn't be so sure in the championship.
Indeed that's true of a lot of them. Willock is an excellent example but the manager is brilliant at 're energising players who look lost.
Needless to say next season we will need 4/5 £5 million pound players if we are to be competitive. I can't see that happening.

Next season a couple of brick shit house type of players will be needed to compliment the skillfull kids

I have my doubts about Trott, he flaps like a seagull trying to steal your chips whenever he comes for crosses or corners, which thankfully he hardly does. Good shot stopper most of the time & good with his feet but I really don't know.

We would probably need to ditch atleast 8 players to even survive next season in my opinion that's if BBM is still here and if tan backs him which I highly doubt as there was no better time than this season in January so they could bed in ready for next season but we should still get over the line anyway.

Although I hope he sells up and f*cks off but wishful thinking.

It's along way off yet so let's just get up the main thing :bluescarf:

Agree with your list, except Osho.

I honestly don't know why some people hate Osho so much.

He's probably our best defender and a great character.

So underrated by some of our fans.

Yes he's made mistakes but so have every other player, and Osho is a top quality player.

Nobody hates him, and yes he can be a good player on occasions. imo he has cost us too many points with his mistakes and is a liability to have in the team. That's from watching him over the season.

I would say that other players have cost us more points but they don't get the abuse that Osho does.

Missed chances from the team, mostly Salech, have cost us more points but most people don't mention that.

I would also say the same for Tanner in terms of giving the ball away resulting in us conceding a goal, although his assists are good on occasion. I wouldn't have them in the first team or have them in the championship, if we get promoted. We seem to be struggling atm. Hopefully Salech returning will give us different options. It's all to play for :ayatollah:

I think if osho hadn't gone in for the tackle and the guy goes past him he gets it in the neck anyway, yes not the best tackle but at least he didn't shit out like Wintle did in the challenge that lead to the osho tackle, if Wintle wins that 50/50 the osho incident never happens

Spot on.

I'm sick to death of people going after Osho for no reason.

He played well last night before the red card. And it shouldn't have been a red card.

Yet some fans are saying it was definitely a red card because it was Osho.

If it was Lawlor, they'd all be saying it isn't a red.

cardiff fans love a scape goat when things go wrong, if we had lost up at Rotherham when Wintle went off I can guarantee he would have got ripped to pieces same as if we won last night people would have shrugged off oshos red as just a bad refereeing decision, fickle old bunch are us cardiff fans when things don't go right

Agree with your picks but i would add Turnball just because be has played quite a few times in the champions league with Celtic. Playing under BBM suites his game more.

The whole squad is probably good enough. I think it would be shrewd to try and offload and upgrade the guys on big contracts that don't play that much Turnbull, Robinson and Chambers but they'll probably see their contracts out.

With regards to Osho he had a bad start so people want to rag on him. I can't believe Tanner isn't the first name on everyone's list after his performances.

I would also add Fish to my list, there's a good, no nosense CH in him who could thrive in the championship. (If we get there)

I agree, under BBM the whole squad is good enough. If BBM goes, it'll depend on who's coming in.

I think fish Bagan and wintle can. They already have. Would they be promotion chasing level? Probably not but they are good players that have had good performances at championship level. Wintle finally is being played properly too.

Fish and Bagan were being battered every week but still held their heads up

i may regret posting this but i really cant see bbm going anywhere. hes building something here and whatever others may think the 3xtensions to the contracts of ashford and tge colwills is in a way him being backed by tan. he will need further backing in the form of several new players butunless he gets a silly offer from one of the top half premier clubs i cant see him going.

Let's not forget that some of these players have played in the Championship and others were not given the chance .
Hopefully most of this squad will get the chance to step up :bluebird:

Squad from FotMob..

Nathan Trott - Yes. Starting 11
Harry Tyrer - Not seen
Matthew Turner - Yes. Squad
Daniel Higgs - Not seen
Noah Williams - Not seen
T-Jay Parfitt - Not seen
William Fish - Yes. Squad
Joel Bagan - Yes. Squad
Gabriel Osho - Yes. Squad
Calum Chambers - Yes. Squad
Calum Scanlon - Not seen enough. On the fence.
Perry Ng - Yes. Starting 11
Ronan Kpakio - Yes. Squad
Dylan Lawlor - Yes. Starting 11
Ryan Wintle. Very unsure. Deserves a chance. I have doubts.
Rubin Colwill. Yes. Squad
David Turnbull. No. Release/Sell
Alex Robertson. Yes. Starting 11.
Eli King. - Not seen enough. On the fence.
Joel Colwill. Yes. Squad/Pushing starting 11.
Rob Tankiewicz - Not seen.
Trey George - Not seen.
Morgan Wigley - Not seen.
Omari Kellyman - No. Send back.
Ollie Tanner. Yes. Squad/Pushing starting 11.
Chris Willock. No. Release/Sell
Yousef Salech. Yes. Starting 11.
Axel Donczew. Not seen.
Isaak Davies. Unsure. May be time for him to leave to kickstart his career.
Cian Ashford. No. Release/Sell
Callum Robinson. No. Release/Sell

For me, we need to sign:
- Championship standard left back (to push Bagan)
- Championship standard CB and then consider moving some of the above out. A captain who can get a goal.
- CDM to push or replace Wintle
- Championship standard wingers to release at least 3 of our current 4 and make Tanner work for a spot.
- Championship standard #10 (Rubin competition)
- An experienced striker or a whipper snapper who's on the way up (Salech competition)

Fair bit of ££ needed to push on if we go up, in my opinion.

That's another thing I thought about but money talks in football
as much as we would like everyone to stay players or mamager.

Although i also think with 6 or 7 better players the younger ones now who have been thrown in to div 1 playing weekly due to no money could benefit more in the championship providing BBM is backed and if he is here of course. But without it they would be in for a harsh lesson and the difference between two divisions but that all lays down to money at the time in my opinion and which way we go :bluescarf:
