BY TLG / AKA Dave Sugarman:

Cardiff City's form against the top six

1 - Lincoln - L 1-2 (A), L 0-2 (H)
3 - Bolton - L 0-1 (A)
4 - Bradford - L 1-3 (H), W 2-1 (A)
5 - Stockport - D 1-1 (A), D 1-1 (H)
6 - Huddersfield - W 3-2 (H)

P 8, W 2, D 2, L 4, GF 9, GA 13, GD - 4, Pts 8 out of a possible 24pts

TLG:

I have been saying for months that, while City are obviously a good side by League One standards, we’re not that great, and certainly not as good as some fans and pundits seem to believe. I think the above set of results have clearly demonstrated that’s the case.

Some additions to this for context:

A mini-league featuring the results of games played by the current top six against each other looks like this:

1 - Lincoln - P 8, W 4, D 4, L 0, GF 12, GA 5, GD + 7, Pts 16
2 - Bradford - P 9, W 4, D 2, L 3, GF 10, GA 9, GD + 1, Pts 14
3 - Stockport - P 8, W 3, D 2, L 3, GF 9, GA 8, GD + 1, Pts 11
4 - Bolton - P 6, W 2, D 3, L 1, GF 5, GA 5, GD + 0, Pts 9
5 - Cardiff - P 8, W 2, D 2, L 4, GF 9, GA 13, GD - 4, Pts 8
6 - Huddersfield - P7, W 1, D 1, L 5, GF 7, GA 12, GD -5, Pts 4

Bolton have played only 6 games against the top 6. They still have four of the top six to play: Stockport (H), Cardiff (A), Huddersfield (H) and Bradford (A).

Bradford have just one left - Bolton (H).

Lincoln's two remaining games are their next two - Stockport (H) and Huddersfield (A).

Ours are Bolton (H) and Huddersfield (A).

Based on the current league table, this is how we've fared so far:

Teams 1 to 6 - P 8, W 2, D 2, L 4, GD -4, Pts 8
Teams 7 to 12 - P 10, W 8, D 1, L 1, GD +11, Pts 25
Teams 13 to 18 - P 9, W 6, D 2, L 1, GD +13, Pts 20
Teams 19 to 24 - P 9, W 6, D 2, L 1, GD +10, Pts 20

Our remaining games are against the teams currently positioned 16th, 9th, 21st, 14th, 3rd, 6th, 7th, 23rd, 15th and 24th. We have home games left against three of the bottom four.

I’d take a draw from the home game against Bolton now, but the rest of the fixtures look kind enough provided City don’t suddenly wilt.

We need to finish this season off get promoted, and strengthen with the current talent we have.

Ive seen a few saying we will be up there in the championship although In my opinion we would be down the bottom end of the table with the current team. Just tapping a ball backwards & sideways on the touchline of each side of the pitch won't keep you in that league you need to change systems and instructions to suit other formations as a game goes on and bbm struggles with that I think. Although we would need half a team to survive or a bit better in the championship I'd say and that's just a start.

Let's just get up first that's the main thing for now and if BBM stays or even if he gets backed which I doubt anyway if we did go up although I'd love tan to f**k off and sell up but we can wish :bluescarf:

Interesting, thanks for posting.

This shows Lincoln and Bradford are very good against other top six sides, with the other four getting mixed results.

But also shows that Bradford may do well against the top six, but don't have the consistency to trouble the top six.

As for the Championship, of course we need a few additions to be comfortable in that league. But our style of play is actually better suited to the Championship and the good things is these players will have had a year of playing this style.

That's a great insight, nice one Lone Gunman.

Suggests when we play a team we feel relaxed about, we turn it on and you see the best of us. However, when the game carries a bit more pressure against the big boys, we don't do so well. Perhaps lacking that big game mentality.

As for the championship, I think our style will suit better but we'll get punished so many more times based on the opportunities we gift the opposition. Gotta toughen up at the back, add some height, some physicality ideally. Problem is, BBM likes to play a risky game so he may have to compromise a bit there.

Defo gotta get there first though.

That’s why we will come back down unless we invest. Good post.

Our defence is not great and it's the attack minded teams we struggle against.

As others have said get up and strengthen.

We could not beat Stockport Home or Away.

Lincoln beat them 3 / 1 today

It's the total opposite our losses have generally come against teams that soak up pressure and hit us on the break.

P8 W4 L4 now, beat Bolton and Huddersfield and we finish with P10 W6 L4
