Rubin today

Sat Mar 07, 2026 8:55 pm

Can't believe I'm doing this, but I think Rubin has to be defended today.

Some have said he didn't play well and he wasn't perfect.

But him and Robertson were two players always trying to make stuff happen and get the ball out to the wingers.

No, not everything came off for them. But the intent to make things happen was there from them.

People who know me will know I mean this because I never defend Rubin usually.

It’s not that he played bad by his standards that bothers me. Today’s performance is what I expect from him against better teams. The problem I have is we moved far better players around to accommodate him. I understand why, we have been a way better team since he got injured, and now he’s back we not as strong. I fear he was made captain by Murphy to win points with the fans and now he’s painted himself into the corner and feels he has to play him regardless, Colwill has something on Murphy. He is a sub at best he blowing for the second goal attempting to get back like he was a 50 year old overweight man.
He not the future for us if we want to improve it’s sad to say.

Bbm sacrificed structure to fit all our flare players in the starting 11, it was a big mistake but it's done now we have to brush ourselves off and move on to Tuesday

We all are entitled to our opinions - but to say you thought Rubin Colwill was like a 50 year old overweight man is just ridiculous. Clearly you don't rate him - that's your opinion - but don't make yourself look like a clown with statements like that.

Watch the clip of him trying chase back, he nearly collapses from exhaustion. Playing him unfit helps no one.

I was impressed by Rubin early season, where he played behind Salech and often bust a gut to support him up front, closing down the opersition defence and chipping in with a few goals.
Following his long lay off, I think he has been rushed back by BBM, who obviously rates him highly.
He is still giving 100% each match, but is not playing in his favoured position simply because we have lost Salech and have no replacement target striker.
I think we will see a better version of him when Salech returns although he will probably have to compete with Kellyman for the number 10 position.
I think it unnecessary for supporters to slag him off under the circumstances.

It’s not under the current circumstances. He been shit 90% of the time he’s played for us.

I have to disagree with this, I thought before his injury he was by far our most creative player and if you asked every team in league 1 who is cardiffs best player every single one would say rubin

Yes he's not perfect but people seem to love putting him down for absolutely no reason

Would I start him Tuesday no I wouldn't but he's still one of the only players we have who on his day can win a game on his own

He deserves a bit more respect he's one of our own a massive cardiff fan

Your right he has done well this season, but he should he’s premier league class according to some. It’s taken playing in the lower leagues for him to look good. We played a decent side yesterday and he was a hindrance. He got the best squad in the league around him yet he still struggles regularly against the better teams in this league. He’s a mid league one player at best in my opinion. He’s being carried. Good knows what Kellyman must be thinking be pushed aside for him.

Murphy has to take the blame some what as well. We will still go up comfortably in my opinion.

I definitely agree we shouldn't be disrupting our structure just to fit him in Kellyman has to play the false 9 and rubin can come on later in the game against tired legs

I do think he's a higher standard of player than league one and would look better the higher up he goes due to having more time on the ball, I think the rough and tumble of league 1 is more suited to players like his brother but still feel rubin has a big part to play during the run in

Re: Rubin today

Supporters have differing opinions about Rubin as a footballer.
Also, I would imagine that BBM would acknowledge the error to play Kellyman out wide to accommodate Rubin in the false number nine position, yesterday.
But, it is obvious BBM thinks highly of him, or he would not have re-entered him back into the team so quickly while other options were available.
For the record, I shouldn't think Rubin would make it as a Premiership footballer, but I think he is has plenty to offer the club at League one or Championship level.
I would prefer to accept an experienced football coach's opinion of the lad, rather than some random follower who suggests Rubin has been '90% shit' at our club!

I dont think he played badly. I do think he was deployed badly. Was he a false 9 or a 10? If he was a false 9 why didnt he play like one? If he was a 10 why did we play Joel there?
I think they lost the fluidity and familiarity we usually have and kelyman and tanner played well out of position for their comfort levels.

Re: Rubin today

He was the only one that looked like scoring for me. Not his best game by any means but still played well.

He didn't hold his position though as the 9. He was more a 10 alongside his brother, leaving absolutely no1 in the box.

Why we didn't shot more yesterday I'll never know. There were always bodies in the way but you gotta try and make your own luck.

Was class before his injury. Needs more games now to get back to former levels.

Agree his 2 long free kicks finding the net were top quality you don' t score free kicks off that quality if your a donkey.

I think most can see it but the rose coloured glasses need to be put away, he's a shadow of the player who started the season. The touches are there, the passes are there but he's not covering the ground he was early doors. He can still play a part but until he's a lot fitter he's back to being the luxury player he's been in previous years. He also cannot play with Kellyman it doesn't work they are too similar.

I feel having him come off the bench for the last 10-15 minutes against tired legs would be far more rewarding for us, let Joel run them ragged for 70 minutes then rubins little bits of quality would shine more against tired legs when he's fresh
