BBM:

“I’m very disappointed with the result,” Brian began. “With so many of our supporters in the stadium present in such numbers, we wanted to give them the perfect day, but today it wasn’t possible.

“I thought it was an even game. When the score was 0-0, I thought we were always more likely to score - their keeper made a couple of great saves in the first half. If we scored the first goal, it would have put us in a great situation.

“There were moments in the first half where we got in good situations in wide areas, which we worked on. Our intention was to get behind their defence and play fast crosses across the box, but we didn’t produce enough quality in those moments which meant we had to rely on shots from the edge of the box.

“We couldn’t find that goal, and Lincoln did a good job of protecting their goal and then scoring a goal on the break. I think once Lincoln scored, they had even more numbers in their box, so it can be quite difficult to find the right opening.

"I think we could have shot more for sure, and I thought we had good crossing opportunities late in the game, which we didn't quite utilise to an ideal effect. The players can improve that and we will, I'm sure."

Today’s result was City’s first home league defeat since late September, and Brian highlighted the positive season that the Bluebirds have had so far despite defeat, and the role of the home support.

Brian continued: “The players here are in a good place. I’m very pleased with the players and the squad we have.

“Every time we’ve had a setback this season, we’ve always bounced back and we’ll try and make it right on Tuesday. I think we’ve lost three out of 25.

“The support here in our stadium has been incredible and we were very aware of how many supporters were coming. I wanted to make it the perfect day, but today we weren’t able to do that, and all we can do is to try and bounce back on Monday.”

Im disappointed with the tinkering and poor team positioning today

Re: Brian Barry-Murphy: “I’m very disappointed

He got it wrong today it's as simple as that i see some of the usual suspects blaming rubin on here

but BBM doesn't know how to play against these type of teams he didn't learn from the Plymouth game

some on here rightly said that we would need a different approach to Lincoln because they are a better version of Plymouth and it's been proven today

Hopefully we can bounce back on Tuesday

He's right, we have to bounce back at Barnsley.

Today wasn't our day but let's remember it wasn't a play-off final.

We are still in a good place to get promoted and the league title wasn't decided today either.

Poor decisions from BBM today both in terms of the initial 11 and subsequent substitutions. However I which people would cut it out with the stupid tinkering comments. We are going up because of "tinkering" it's squad management and he's been very good at it

Exactly. We've heard it all before - "tinkering", "this guy got Rochdale relegated" etc.

People just need to accept that Lincoln were better than us today and also realise we're in a brilliant position to get automatic promotion - something that these people said wouldn't happen with this squad.

Murphy has done well this season. He will take us up no doubt. Todays defeat is down to his poor tactics today and substitutions, why he changed the whole team to fit in Rubin I don’t know. But we can’t win them all everyone loses every now and then.

Like I said many times, we see how good he really in next season in the championship, if he stays married to Rubin which I fear may happen we will be relegated this time next year.

We are all a bit disappointed today Bri. We needed a plan B coz we knew they'd nullify our possession based game but we don't really have one do we. It works most weeks but it was never gonna work this week.

Keep us in those 2 top, and all will be forgotten

Froggy I said before after plymouth he needs to find a way to beat physical sides we struggled against stockport also ,

sadly he did not find a way to break big physical teams, trott was under pressure and caved in on throw ins corners ,

and don't know how many times we went across the pitch from wing to wing ,we needed kellyman in the strikers roll to break the lines of there defence, but he was out of the game on the wing .
Hopefully that's the last of the big physical sides left, but he needs to find a way to beat them and to date he has not.

Monty ,

I was sent this today by a Championship Coach:

“Lincoln had the measure of Cardiff.”

“We have been playing and winning against some very poor teams.”

“Lincoln played like a proper championship level side on Saturday.”

That game hurt me more than any game this season, our players did not rise to the occasion after all those fans that had turned up the team did' nt

we were overpowered and this killed the atmosphere in the first 30 mins most could see we were been overpowered and we had no answer and came away with nothing.

Pride hurts but we should win our next 4 on the trot no excuse, none are in the top 6 and murphy really needs to drive this team on harder than ever we must not fail.

BBM showing his inexperience a little on Saturday I think.

Needed to be playing players in their strongest positions from the start of the game.

Seems to learn lessons quite well though so hopefully back to winning ways tomorrow.

I felt the same way Monty.

Your right NO excuses, We now have to and should beat all these very ordinary, weak sides.

David,

Yes he’s still learning and your right his inexperience cost us.

I feel though he Will learn by theses mistakes.

When the normally dependable Trott flapped at 3 crosses and failed to punch properly within the first 10 minutes, I knew it was going to be a long afternoon. That said I don’t believe Lincoln are a better side than us. Just on the day BBM was out coached.
His decision to play with no striker at home still baffles me and plonking Kellyman out wide was a nuts idea from the very start. It completely negated his attacking threat. Rubin as always played too deep in fairness looking to get on the ball. Lincoln’s back 2 must have thought it was Christmas. And all this and WE were the home side.
What really boils my piss though is that I totally and utterly accept and understand that sometimes things don’t go to plan and what seemed like a good idea at the time often turns out to be a poor one. That’s fine and all ok. But for that to be allowed to continue unchecked or changed for so long is tbh a complete failure on BBM’s part. Coming out with “We could have shot more” surely for the love of God and all things Holy he could like the rest of us see after half and hour plus of play and with 78% possession we hadn’t yet had 1 single attempt at goal. Remember this is an attempt not even talking about on target. And again we were the home side! The whole stadium could see after 10 minutes things weren’t working.
With under 10 minutes left and 2 nil down you’d have thought we’d be peppering their penalty box at every opportunity possible. Throwing the proverbial kitchen sink at them. But no we kept on playing the tippy tappy sideways and backwards passing going until the end. The grand plan must have been to bore them into submission.
As other posters have mentioned, we seriously struggle when against a physical side who press hard and put us under pressure. Just like our God awful predictable short throw-ins, we need to work on this. “If” we do go up then we’ll get royally rodgered every week.
