The Football Association of Wales (FAW) is in discussions with Cardiff City about potentially expanding the Cardiff City Stadium.

FAW CEO Noel Mooney revealed on the Business of Football podcast that the stadium's capacity could be increased to around 45,000 seats. However, he noted that this expansion might depend on Cardiff City returning to the Premier League.

Mooney emphasised that Cardiff City Stadium has become a beloved venue for fans, describing it as a 'fortress'. He also mentioned that while the current setup is unlikely to change soon, Swansea City, Wrexham, and the Principality Stadium are integral to future plans. "Cardiff City, where we play, our fans absolutely love it," Mooney stated.

Wales is set to return to the Principality Stadium for Euro 2028 matches, should they qualify. The stadium, which holds 74,000 seats, was developed with lottery funding and is owned by the rugby union. Mooney highlighted the importance of maintaining a strong fan base across various venues, including the historic Wrexham stadium, which is undergoing redevelopment.
