They have approved it and it will begin from next season in the Championship.
5th will play 8th and 6th will play 7th in one off games.
The winners of those games will play 3rd and 4th in a two legged semi-final.

would be nice to give clubs who generally miss out on play-offs to get the chance.
also could help us out for the long term.

It's not needed at all. The way it's going all clubs except those relegated will be in the play offs, it makes no sense.

So finish 8th next season we will be in the play offs.

Not for me, although like most, I would take it if our team were involved, as sadly, it will give the teams who ‘
drift’ through the Championship an opportunity to ‘
hit the jackpot’ through the play-off lottery!
A better solution for me, would be to create Premier League 2 and have a round-robin event between the teams in 19th and 20th place in the Premier League and 3rd and 4th in the Championship
Top team (maybe two) are in the Premier League the following season!

I don't know how to feel about it. Is it fair? No but the playoffs are unfair anyway. The team finishing 3rd should be promoted, it's just a case of how far is too far?

The play offs create extra revenue for clubs and excitement for fans, so I can fully understand the purpose.
In the past when the first two or three teams were promoted, many teams in mid table often had nothing to play for in the final half a dozen or so fixtures.
With a play off spot not decided until the last couple of matches, it does add to the interest.
So, despite the fact a club could miss out by finnishing just below the automatic promotion positions, I fully understand the introduction of play-offs.

But where does the line get drawn is my question. It was 3 teams & then it was top 6, now it will be top 8, where do we stop? Top 10? Top 12? Top 20? Everyone except those relegated get to have a play off chance of being promoted? I know it sounds ridiculous now but so did people saying the same when it started with just the top 3.

Next they will start playing about with relegation just watch it will be bottom 3 relegated with 4th bottom playing off against the play off final loser from the division below or some stupid shit like that

I certainly agree that the play offs should not be extended beyond 3rd to 6th.
Other than that, I understand the advantages of them.

Good gives us more of a chance .

This format has and is tried in lower leagues here and around some other leagues in countries .
Not sure I am in or out of favour of the format - but if it's your club who end up 7th or 8th - You still have a chance .

Or we could finish 3trd by 15 points plus from 8th but they go up by a freak goal, a dodgy referee/VAR decision, etc., etc.
I’d be tamping and I’d understand if it was the other way round
“
Everyone knows the situation at the start of the season”, is a valid point, but for me, it makes a mockery of a team doing so much better over a season than their play-off competitors

The chances of that are pretty slim, if you look at who actually wins the playoffs. In the last 20 years the winner has finished 3rd or 4th 15 times. Surely if you give the teams in 3rd and 4th extra rest they'll be more likely to win. You'll get a hot team coming from 7th or 8th once in a blue moon, which already happens like Blackpool against us

With you 100% on this.
What it does is dilute the competition. It increases the prospect of a team in 8th place on 60 points playing a team in 3rd place on 94 points for a spot in the Prem. That 8th place team has no right to be competing for that place IMO. This change is just a revenue generator. If anything, it should just be 3 relegated and 3 promoted and that's that - no play-offs.
