" Cian Ashford signs new contract "

Mon Mar 02, 2026 2:18 pm

We are delighted to announce Cian Ashford has signed a new deal with the Bluebirds.

Cian's agreement with the Club will run until the summer of 2030.

The 21-year-old has played 38 times this season, netting on five occasions, including in Saturday's win over Doncaster Rovers. Ashford came through City's Academy, joining at the age of just six. He went on to make his senior debut in April 2024 and has been part of the First Team squad ever since.

Speaking about his new deal, Cian said: "It's been in the works for a while now. I'm happy to get it done and dusted and sign the papers. The Club is in a really good place at the moment.

"This means a lot to me. I love playing here and walking out at Cardiff City Stadium. I'm delighted that my future is at Cardiff City."

City boss Brian Barry-Murphy added: "We’re really pleased that Cian sees his future here. He’s had a really good season, but I think the most impressive thing about him is that we’re now seeing exceptional improvement and growth, which we think will be even more evident as the season progresses. He has such dedication to improve every single day, and that will make him a special player for the Club moving forward.

"The players who have made so much progress and come through from such a young age at the Academy are the heartbeat. When they have so much potential and the mentality to match that, then to keep them at Cardiff City is very important. I’m very grateful to the Board and everybody who has worked so hard to make this possible."

I know its controversial but I don't see Ashford, Willock or Tanner the answer in the championship. Not one of them can cross a decent ball. I would admit Tanner is more direct and a threat but how can you be an effective winger when you don't beat the first man with a cross.

Ashford is raw, needs to fine tune his position as I’m undecided about where his best is as I’m sure most others are. Is he really a winger?

Can’t really compare him to Tanner though, I mean 8 assists and 1 goal since returning from injury isn’t exactly struggling to beat the first man. But for some poor finishing he would have more assists, and since his return Salech, arguably our best target man, has been out injured.

Tanner hasn’t performed previously, but this is the best we’ve seen of him. He seems so consistent now, before we’d get a game out of him 2-3 times a season

I don't think the top managers look at the same metrics as fans. Cian isn't as exciting as Tanner, but i bet he turns it over less as well.
Really happy for Cian, he is still improving and i think he'll drift inside as he progresses.

Me too, excellent player on his day and he'll only get better. Perhaps needs a cooler head infront of goal but another great bit of business by the club.
