With a vastly inferior goal difference, call it 11 points.

True

Yes but not wishing to be devil's advocate, If the 10 point gap were to be closed, yes, that's a big amount, but a 2 goal swing in each game, for both us and them would be wiped out in only 5 games. Will it happen, I doubt it, BUT We can't be complacent. Still a long way to go yet.

In 2013 with 13 games to go we were TOP with 70 points, a goal difference of 21, and from now on only won 3, Lost 2 & drew 8 of our last 13 games and finished on 87 points and I think led the 3rd place team by 10 points.

In 2009 we had a huge goal difference over Preston going into last part of the season. Think it might have been as much as 20 goals. We got thumped up there 6-0 and the swing of 12 goals was crucial. Eventually lost out to them on goal difference of 1. If we had lost 6-1 we would have gone up instead. Ross McCormack i think missed a penalty.

That was a heartbreaking season and if I remember right we had ghe same goal difference as Preston but they went above us on goals scored
I think we needed a single point from our last 4 games to guarantee a playoff spot and we lost all 4

I seem to remember we needed 2 points from our last 4 and got 1 but I may be wrong. What I do remember clearly is our last game at Ninian we lost 3-0 to Ipswich when we only needed a point. It wasn't the grand send off that everyone seems to remember as we all thought we would all be back for the play off in 10 days time. We still thought we would be OK as Preston had to play the leaders Birmingham away that night and had to win to take it into the final game. It was on TV. It was Cameron Jerome I think who put Brum 1 up with about 15 minutes left and I went to the bar to get a celebratory drink. But Preston got two in the last 10 minutes and it was all down to the last game at Sheff Wed which we lost.
I remember all this so clearly, partly because before the Ipswich game I had put a £2 on us not getting to the play offs at 100-1. I felt like Judas when I collected my winnings but at least it paid for my season ticket next season

I'm watching this game and Burton have been the better team by miles it really is a tough place to go small bobbly pitch I think our point was better than we thought at the time

3-0 to Burton.

They've done well against a few of the top six teams, including us. This would always be tough for Stockport but didn't expect Burton to score three.
But this is what I mean when I say I can't see the teams from third downwards putting a run together to finish above us and Lincoln, that's why I'm so confident about promotion.
Bolton are inconsistent, Bradford are good at home but not away, Stockport don't look capable of winning enough games to get close enough to the top two.

Yea I agree all the chasing teams are way too inconsistent we just need to hold our nerve forget the plymouth game and keep going

I also think it's fair to say if we win 6 then those 3 would need to win 10 to catch us that's a massive ask foe any of them
Tue Feb 24, 2026 9:34 pm
Bradford pitch is awful
Tue Feb 24, 2026 9:47 pm
Good night for us, gap to third stays at 11 points.
Nobody in the top six has a game in hand over us anymore either.

Good to see Stockport losing, couldn't happen to a nicer side.
Really hope they fall away, scummy players and manager deserve to be in this rotten league with amateur refs.

A win against Donny and a point against Lincoln I think should ease the worry
Thu Feb 26, 2026 12:19 am
13 Games to go - 11 points ahead of 3rd place and Goal Difference same as Lincoln .
