Cardiff City Striker goes out:

Tue Feb 24, 2026 10:33 am

Cardiff City striker Luke Pearce 22 yrs old in a few months has joined Finnish side IFK Mariehamn on loan until the end of June.

Pearce was released from Southampton at the end of the 2023–24 season. On 4 July 2024, he joined Cardiff City. Pearce joined Sligo Rovers on loan in the League of Ireland on 16 July until the end of the season.

After being released by Southampton, Pearce joined Cardiff in July 2024, but has yet to make any appearances.

Very random club for him to join, but I see the Finnish club have said it could be the start of a partnership between us and them, where we send more players there.

I've watched Pearce a few times for the U21s and although he's looked good at times, have to be honest and I don't think he will ever be good enough for our first team.

I 100% agree with you Ned.

The majority of the players we bring in to the U21’s end up being released or sent out again never making it.

Ditch the whole set up I say annis wasting millions every year on it for years on end it's only the fact we have had to use so many this season is because we have no money otherwise we wouldn't see the likes of lawlor, kpakio, colwil and others to be honest even if it's been a good thing this season for us. How many years have the club spent silly money on an under 21 team then praise up in the media then you see them get released or go to pontyprid or the scrap heap sadly. Id rather than money go to the first team and use youth in cups like that vertu trophy games.

Like I said we have been forced to use them this season which has come to fruit but for many years it's been a total waste before that in my opinion. A prime example sign somebody who's now 22 kind of tells me he's never going to make it in our first team regular. We have seen droves of this over years on end sadly.

Ian,

If they are really going make it they should be making first team appearances in these leagues at 18 & 19.

The actual U21 Squad as you say and I know hardly produces any quality first team players.
This season I agree we were virtually forced in to having many of them out in the first team squad that would never have made it in the Championship.

Thanks to BBM he got a lot out of them.

But will they make it in the Championship???
Massive question and probably only a few will.

I’ve loved this, this season, but I keep reminding myself this 3rd Division football with many Championship players coming down with us and quite a few not making it up there.

BBM has got a lot out of them to be fair, but the Championship is a much higher level .

Tanner signed over the age of 20, took some time.

Now look at him.

Yes BBM has got alot out of them but people forget we had to use them due to being skint otherwise we would all be none of the wiser on what they are like . I just think the under 21s is a waste of money personally. Go back to the pontins reserves league they should where subs and 1st team squad members would play other clubs of the same bec some youth player who's 16 would get more from playing a 31 year old from another club coming back from injury who's been around for years over some other u21 player who's probably going to be released where that club is. That's my thinking anyway . Them days they had bench players first team squad players who are in the stand and mix a few youth in there not under 21 players who are 23 but playing only u21 football like today it's bonkers to me :bluescarf:

Don’t forget Neil,

I was on about if promoted.

We are on about Div 3, let’s see and hope they all make it in The Championship.

Ashford, Bagan, Davies Tanner all struggled in the Championship.

Let’s hope BBM has improved them that much they do as well.

Time will tell.

Bagan was a Southampton Accademy player but got released.
He’s been fantastic this season.

And Isaak Davies as a Striker fails badly, great sub in this Div.

BBM has improved players a lot.

Hopefully enough for next season in the championship.

Championship has been weird this year. No mega stand out teams and the relegated clubs have struggled.

Nothing scary in the champ at all. But it’s definitely a level higher.

Spot on, without being negative a lot of our squad now are at ‘their level’ including in my opinion Tanner. If we want to push forward it won’t be by having players like Luke bouncing around. And I mean that with respect for him and for us, you just end up killing players who go on to do nothing that could have had decent careers in the lower leagues by releasing them earlier. 1 in god knows how many will come back and bite you on the arse

The lad is 22 this year and has barely played senior football.

I know people will thrown names out that have come good later in their careers but how many of these lads have we had over the years with how much later success? Not a lot

I know people will thrown names out that have come good later in their careers but how many of these lads have we had over the years with how much later success? Not a lot

I feel the same, many of this squad are at a good level now, but I feel many will not be good enough for the Championship as it’s proven with many other clubs promoted from this league.

If and when we are promoted I feel we will need to invest in the Championship and many will have to go.

But also a few will continue to to improve.

This lad we are talking about is not good enough for this league so how like you say a well will he make it in the Championship
