MORE GOALS WITHOUT SALEC

Wed Feb 18, 2026 1:17 pm

Cannot wait to have him back but I suppose sytistics are there for all to see,I think most teams, set up with there 2 centre backs looking to be challenged with aerial battles with a striker and are so used to this system ,this is the reason we are finding some joy with goals coming from everywhere no tight man marking ,Tanner last night u watched him launch 2 balls into the box in the air nothing for us,
I was screaming keep it on the ground and hey presto same as saturday goals flowing in ,
and the centre backs taken out of the game
apart from perry ng last night with his head the last few games all goals off the ground.

Keep it going boys nearly there.

It’s weird tho because we are now whipping balls in from the wing now that salech is out. We weren’t doing that with salech in the team so it will be interesting to see when he’s back and we continue playing the way we are. It’s probably due to Tanner being back.

Most of the balls into the box are coming from Tanner. Willock was pretty much marked out of the game 1st half by their number 7. Tanner ripped their full back apart time and time again and 2nd half they switched the number 7 to his side but he kept getting passed him too

Thought we would miss Salec but this is a team with a squad that knows how to step up and get the job done :bluebird:

I think league 1 center backs are more equipped to deal with big strong target men playing against them

Having 4 inter changeable fast young forwards running in behind them from every angle is something they don't come up against very often at this level and are clearly struggling to contain us

I thought we would struggle without Salech but fair play to bbm playing without a recognised striker seems to be a master stroke as at the moment league 1 defences just can't live with it

I hope BBM sticks with Kellyman when Salech is fit again. The way we are playing now is the best football we've seen from Cardiff since Dave Jones and long may it continue.

16 goals in 5 games since the Stockport game compared to 7 in 5 games before that game speaks for itself.

As most of you will know I'm not Salech's biggest fan but it'll be nice to have him back as an option off the bench.

This was my thinking we are getting joy because we don' t have a target man for the usual big centre backs to target or mark.

We seem to be able to adapt to injuries.

We've had three significant injuries this season - Tanner, Rubin and Salech. But none of those have held us back.

Like you say, better to have them all available but great to see that we have been able to cope well after losing big players to injury.

And NG, he was a loss, Kpacio played so well it took us a while to realise.

Lawlor too and we've managed well without him.

We have played well in the 5 games he has been out But 4 of those games we would have expected to score a lot of goals as all lower half of the division and Luton where way behind us
I do believe that in this division defenders would come across more players in the Salech mould
and be better prepared for a player like him.
I look forward to getting him back in the match day squad as it would add another style to our options when required

It's easy to say we would have expected to score a lot of goals against lower half teams after the event but how many would have thought that we'd score 16 goals in those 5 games without Salech?

We were expected to score plenty of goals in many games this season:
Port Vale away who are currently bottom of the league we drew 0-0.
Wimbledon away we had to rely on a 95th goal from Davies to win 1-0.
Burton at home, lost 1-0 and Salech missed a hat full of very good chances.
Lost 1-0 to Newport at home in the EFL Trophy.
Blackpool away where we lost 3-1 and were awful.
A second half goal from Robertson to beat Exeter 1-0 at home.
We went 13 games over December and January where all the games we won was by 1 goal only and that included games against Doncaster, Exeter, Wycombe, Wigan and Leyton Orient.
Salech played in all of the above games.

It will be great to have Salech back as an option off the bench but results and performances show we are a better team without him.

I said months ago he's not the player most thought he was and I took a lot of nasty abuse from many on here. So far without Salech in the team I've been proved right.
