Brian Barry-Murphy:

Brian Barry-Murphy spoke to the assembled press following City’s 4-1 victory over AFC Wimbledon in Sky Bet League One.

BBM:

“I’m very pleased,” Brian began. “We knew how dangerous Wimbledon were; we saw how many goals they scored at Barnsley. We knew that the game wouldn’t be straightforward and I’m very pleased to get the performance and the result in the end.

“I didn't think our attacking play in the first half was of the same quality as it was on Saturday against Luton. I thought we got to where we wanted to get to in terms of 1v1 situations in wide areas and central areas, but our technique in terms of how we crossed or passed needed to be improved. In the second half we did that and got the rewards we needed to.

“I guess it's just a sign that we have the potential to improve so much, and that's probably the biggest thing in our thoughts at the moment.”

BBM:

City attacker Ollie Tanner continued his fine form with a goal and an assist in the win, and Brian was full of praise for the winger.

He continued: “I’m really pleased to have him back so strong and in the form he’s in. In the first half, he had a lot of situations where he didn’t quite produce what he or we would have wanted. We were looking for a big impact from him in the second half, and thankfully he gave it.

“He has the ability to beat players and provide the service we need. In the second half we saw signs of his quality.

“We depend on a lot of our players to be able to beat players 1v1 and create chances. We scored a lot of goals from all areas of the team.”

He's right about the first half and especially Tanner.

But we were able to step it up in the second half, Tanner had a much better second half and good to see him get a goal.

Tanner is starting to look very dangerous on the wing now

He must be a nightmare for defenders at this level

Wonder if he will step it up in the championship.

I think so.

Tbf he showed glimpses of what he can do in the championship in past seasons but he was very inconsistent
He still has a lot to improve but
I think he will be fine under bbm

He's the reason we are ripping teams apart 8 assists since his return. Unbelievable.

Can he improve yes but he's already our best player. Loads of moaning about him at half time in the ground last night, just no pleasing some

I don't get why he gets so much stick sometimes either
He's the only winger we have that actually tries to take on defenders

At half time yesterday a couple of people. I think they back tracked second half.

On the match day thread.

Don't get it, even Wimbledon fans were praising him last night when I was walking up sloper road

One even said to me he thinks Tanner is too good for this league

Tanner is too good for this league. I feel he's in-between this and championship but hopefully with others pushes on to more championship level with Murphy etc help.
I did say on here last night at half time maybe tanners a bit jaded but didn't criticise him. Just beat his man well but some of his offloads etc were off. Seems Murphy said similar above

He's good enough for the championship. He's still developing, still only 23 and we where a god awful team last year, nobody looked good. His shooting and some of his crosses weren't brilliant last night but he still had the left back on toast. He's far more willing to take risks than any of our other wingers, so it stands to reason he'll lose the ball more.

Re: Brian Barry-Murphy:

It's been said before but don't forget that Tanner didn't properly pcome through a PL or EFL academy like most players. He spent time with the Arsenal and Charlton academy but wasn't in that setup for anywhere near as long as the majority of footballers.

He mainly came from non league so his path has been very different.

That might explain why he wasn't coached things at a young age that most players are. It's also why he be a bit raw at times.

Found it interesting that BBM said if didn't have Tanner then he's exactly the player he'd be looking to sign, so he's obviously happy with how he's doing and his numbers since he came back from injury speak for themselves.

He can be a bit frustrating at times but I think that's for the above reasons. As will all our players, he's now recieving high quality coaching and is improving.

Agree with that.
