CARDIFF CITY STAR RUBIN COLWILL :

Sat Feb 14, 2026 8:40 pm

RUBIN COLWILL:

It’s an unbelievable feeling to be back.” Rubin began. "It’s been a long time out for me, the longest I’ve ever not played football for. To get the reception I got today and the performance from the boys it meant the world to me.

“It has been unbelievably frustrating being out. It’s been a little bit easier as we’ve been doing so well. It’s been nice coming in and seeing the boys training every day, the feeling has still been really good.

“It was nice to come on today. It was good to get a run around and test my lungs. It was a really nice feeling to be back out there, and it made it really easy to come on with the boys playing so well.

“I’ve felt really good since the operation. All the staff have been brilliant with me and obviously know me very well.

Rubin was full of praise for his brother and the rest of the squad for their clinical first-half display and resolute second-half performance.

Fair play to him, he’s really stepped his game up, and he’s flying at the minute, so I couldn’t be any prouder of him.

“I think the first half we came out of the blocks flying, obviously brilliant goals from Dave [Turnbull], Perry [Ng] and Joel [Colwill], a brilliant first half, it couldn’t have got much better really.

“Then the second half we knew they’d come out and change things, be a bit more direct, but then it was on us to manage the game and keeping doing the stuff we were doing, but we could’ve scored a lot more today, but it wasn’t meant to be, but it was a great performance all round.

Sitting top of the league and unbeaten in 11 games, Rubin commented on the progress they’ve been making and the chemistry within the squad.

He concluded: “I think it’s the natural progression from the work we’ve been doing. We started really strong and had a really good pre-season, but the work we do day in, day out, I think there was only one way it was going to go.

“The squad we’ve got, the people in the squad. It’s not just the ability, it’s the people. It keeps everything so healthy. The relationships we’ve all got, it's competition, but it’s never you or me, it’s we’re in this together

Thought he did really well when he came on, especially when you think how long he's been out.

The whole vibe in the stadium picked up when he came on. Great to see Lawlor back too.

Nice little cameo today, love the way he can drift between players with ease, that little run and pass to Robinson at the end was lovely

I agree it was top class, he made 2 of those passes from the right, in front of the Ninian, we had a fabulous view of the ball as it arrived on Robbo's foot but eluded the defence and the keeper, shame Robbo caught the keeper's trailing foot with his shot as that may have trumped Perry's goal as goal of the game!

Give the lad half a dozen games as substitute and bring him on within the last half an hour until he becomes fully match fit.
We will then see the best version of Rubin Colwill under the best manager this club has seen for years.
