EFL clubs are set to vote to expand the Championship :

EFL clubs are set to vote to expand the Championship play-offs to six teams at a general meeting on March 5th

The new format would be:

5th place vs 8th place
6th place vs 7th place
In one-off ties at the home ground of the higher finishing club

The winners then progress to a two-legged semi-final against the teams who finished in 3rd & 4th with the winners of that meeting at Wembley

Why not jut include all the teams & call it something like oh, I don't know, the championship? Seems ridiculous to keep expanding the number of teams who can join in.

They'll vote for it because it benefits the clubs to have more teams in the play-offs, but I think it's not a good idea.

The play-offs are perfect as they are. Changing the format could ruin it.

Would be ridiculous to have a third of the league either automatically promoted or in the play-offs.

All while they refuse to have three teams up from the National League.

Bit of an overkill I think as the current system works well, all I would say though is if that 8th placed team were to manage promotion they would've deserved it, they would have to win against 5th playing away, winning a semi final and a final against teams who all finished above them so a great accomplishment imo.

To me top 3 gets promoted simple

Not a great idea in fairness terms, but I think overall the clubs will vote for it, as it’s been used lower down the leagues already

I’m not a massive ‘fan’ of the play-offs anyway me, as can and have rewarded clubs who have finished way behind the club who finish 3rd

I understand the ‘excitement’ the play-offs can bring to clubs and supporters involved, but either keep as it is, or go back to first past the post like it used to be!

The play offs should be 3rd and 4th in the championship playing 3rd and 4th from bottom in the premier league

It looks like it's going to happen.

This could benefit a team like us, we are very unlikely to finish top 6 next season, top 8 is more realistic, depending on recruitment.

There's been quite a few occasions over the last 10yrs where this would of kept our season alive at least for a few more weeks.
I don't think anyone really enjoys have 4 or 5 dead rubbers at the end of the season.

The truth is the playoffs in their current format are grossly unfair on the team that finishes 3rd. It's simply a case of how far is too far at this point

I have always believed there should be a proper advantage to finishing higher.

I wouldn't have penalties at the end of the second leg, the highest team goes through

I'd also have the third team straight to the final

The winner of 5th vs 6th, plays 4th the next week, both games home and away.

Lets not bother with the league, let's just have a championship challenge cup, all over by November

Quite surprised at some of the views on this. For our club specifically, who when in form sit around the top10 in the championship, it's an expanded opportunity at glory.

When the play-offs were introduced, bottom of the league above were included, so it's always developing.

I don't really see a need to change it, as its a good product; but the format sounds like it'll add a 1-off game where 5th play 7th and 6th play 8th before going into the standard 2-leg semi and final format. Risdale is driving it, also. Shock as Preston enjoy a 7th to 12th-ish finish.

There always seems to be a separation from 4th and up, but the difference from 6th to 8th in the championship is usually not much.

I'd vote for it. Imagine 8th place winning it and getting to the prem. Carnage!!
