Brian Barry-Murphy on Ollie Tanner on December 11:

"Somebody of his calibre coming back into the squad is very much like a new signing. If we could recruit a player like Ollie Tanner in the January window, we would be over the moon."

Underrated by many. Keeps the fullback occupied for every second he’s on the pitch.

I have been a critic of our crossing as being poor but since tanner has come back from injury his final ball has improved a lot , great pace and shape to his final ball and 6 assists in 6 games confirms this. Brilliant .

It really works having Willock and Tanner on either side because they're such different types of winger.

Willock is more of a goalscoring winger (our second highest top scorer) and Tanner is a creator.

I know the stats are good for both Tanner and Willock but watching them over 90 minutes they are frustrating. Tanner looks lazy on times and I've never seen Willock make a tackle.

They’re wingers not central midfielders. Tanner chases back constantly so not sure what games you’re watching. Last year I would have agreed but this year he’s added that to his game.

Tanner set up two goals on Saturday with great passes. The one to Willock was superb.

Tanner is a stocky guy and always looks like he’s carrying a bit of weight although I doubt if he is.
He goes on a run and then seems to walk and look knackered but I wouldn’t call him lazy at all.

I agree regarding Willock though. He infuriates me with his lack of tackling, he always shits out just like Josh Murphy used to.

Can we just have one post where we actually focus on what a player is doing well and not try and bring down other aspects of his game.

He's a winger and has 6 assists in 6 after a bad injury and long lay off..... be greatful we have a winger who can produce those stats.

If we had Lamal on the wing we'd have people on here still finding faults with his game.

I love tanner and i don't get why he gets so much stick sometimes

He's the type of winger people were saying we needed to sign in January

He has many strengths and also some weaknesses but let's be honest if he never put a foot wrong then he wouldn't be playing for us, he'd be at a much higher level

Only 4 players in this league have more assists than him and he has only played half the amount of games as most of them

Top player

I think you may have a valid point with Tanner. Good post.

I'd say watching him live at games he is one of our most determined players - legs like a rugby player, no fat, sheer determination, a lovely left foot. We are in league 1 - any team in league 1 would be creaming themselves to have him in their team.

Always connects with the crowd - collapsed on the match in desperation the second our relegation was confirmed last season.

As for losing the ball - yes, that's what a dribbler does sometimes - the rest of the time he creates 6 assists for 6 goals.
