Cardiff City have strengthened their under-21 ranks with the permanent signings of Herbie James and Isaac Davies

The pair have arrived on a quiet transfer deadline day, with Cardiff's business as far as senior acquisitions understood to have concluded with the loan capture of Calum Scanlon on Sunday.

As for the academy, though, they will have two fresh faces for the back half of the season, with forward James joining from Tottenham Hotspur and midfielder Davies making the move from Nottingham Forest.

Both players will link up with Darren Purse’s U21 side, who drew 2-2 with Bournemouth on the south coast today, as the Bluebirds continue their push to develop young talent within the club.

James, 19, who previously spent time in Manchester City’s academy before joining Spurs, has featured in the U18 Premier League and Premier League 2.

The forward says he jumped at the opportunity to head to south Wales.

I’m so excited by this opportunity,” he said. “I felt it was one that I had to take, and at the same time I’m so pleased and happy to be here.

“More than anything I’m hungry to make an impact, to represent the City and meet the fans. Sometimes you get that gut feeling and it feels right.

“The goal is to get momentum between now and the end of the season. There’s so much that I can learn. Once I’m in the environment it’s game mode and being fully focused, with the aim to get involved with the first-team squad.

“I always look to excite and get people watching on their feet. The game is about scoring goals and I live for those moments
.”

James joins a pathway that has seen a number of Cardiff youngsters push towards senior involvement in recent seasons, and he made clear his ambition to follow that route.

Davies, 18, completes a permanent move from Nottingham Forest, where he has featured in the U18 Premier League this season.

The midfielder also brings experience at youth international level with Wales and will reunite with several familiar faces in the Welsh capital.

I’m buzzing to be here,” he said. “I know how big this club is and this city, being a one-club city is massive. I know a few of the boys here already so as soon as the offer came in I knew I couldn’t wait to get started.

“Mannie Barton, Jac Thomas and Noah Williams are good mates already from my time with Wales, and when I asked they all said it’s a really good place to be.

“My strengths are playing on the ball, passing and breaking lines, and when I’ve spoken to staff here they’ve said that’s what they want to do, so I feel like I can add some value to the side
.”

Davies added that walking around Cardiff City Stadium for the first time had reinforced his excitement about the move, describing it as “an amazing stadium” and pointing to the number of young players currently progressing through the club.

Re: BLUEBIRDS ADD TWO ‘FINAL DAY’ SIGNINGS

U21s boss Purse believes the additions, along with Caden Voice’s arrival in January, provide the balance his group needs for the second half of the season.

If you look at the three boys that we’ve brought in over the last week, they’re who we’ve needed as a group,” Purse said.

“We have a good number of lads out on loan, which is what’s right for them as individual players to play men’s football.

“Now it’s about us trying to help the lads that are in the building; there are lots of youngsters in there who are second-year scholars and need assistance with the second half of the season, so the players we’ve brought in bring experience and quality.

“Hopefully, this puts us in good stead for the second half of the season
.”

Meanwhile, Cardiff have also announced the loan recall of Will Spiers.

I think you’re both right!

This is certainly ‘one for the future’ and my Spurs season ticket holder friend says he’s surprised they’ve let let him go, and that he could ‘do a job’ for us this season, if given the opportunity!

He knows who he wants, he knows who he wants! Brian Barry-Murphy, he knows who he wants! :laughing6: :ayatollah:

Chris,

Thankfully BBM knows young quality and I’m pleased.
Good for the future.

I wish they had backed his first team as we all wanted to see us strengthen now

BBM has done a fantastic job so far and long may it continue :bluebird:

Good news No "Exits"

I think i am getting BBM. A fairly small, tight first team sqaud with no "sqaud players", you all are part of it.

The squad players are the better U21's who step up when required and if they take their chance, stay.

I don't think he thought Giles and Mafico were quite ready for that role and needed a bit more experience.

Last time we signed a young attacking player from Spurs it was Etete, hopefully this guy is better. BBM knows his young players so fingers crossed.
