As a kid I remember that the official capacity in the Rothmans book which was the "bible" (equivalent to Wisden in cricket) was 65,000. As the enclosure, grandstand and Canton held 17,000 max, that means 48,000 for Grangend and Bob Bank. Bob Bank was fair bit bigger than the Grange so not far off 30,000 i would say.!!!

Thought I read years ago that the Bob Bank held 24,000, Grange-End 18,000, although that may have been for a different time period. Remember the last day of the old Grange, Nov 5th 1977 v Stoke City. 2-0. Sad day.
Makes me mad that the new stadium lets in the rain quite well.

I believe the Bob Bank holds the record for the longest surviving football stand advert.

Literally, as there was no ‘crowd control’ back then, although there was a nominal capacity of 60,000 placed on the stadium in the 1950’s :ayatollah:

The biggest crowd ever recorded at Ninian Park was 62,634 spectators, who watched the Wales vs England international match on October 17, 1959.

Cardiff City club record: 57,893 (vs Arsenal, April 22, 1953)

My grandfathe, who i used to go with when i was a young boy, told me that they used crowd packers in the enclosure for big games. People used to stand on the touch line before the game and shout out orders for everyone to move to the left, right up down or whatever!! Never saw it myself though I was there for Cardiff v Arsenal in 1969 when 55,000. Being a young boy I didnt see much of the game though. Made the mistake of not going in the boys enclosure.

My dad used to attend back in the 1950's and early 60's and told me it took him an hour to walk from the old Bob bank and reach the railway bridge at Ninian Park Station after some matches as the crowd was so big.

I was a 15 year old kid on the bob bank for the Arsenal game, moreorless underneath the television gantry. My abiding memory is being unable to move for the duration of the game, not backwards, forwards or sideways. Just as well we didn't score, it could have got very scary.

I was there for the 1969 arsenal game, stood on the Bob bank, when the game ended my feet never touched the ground as the crowd made their way out, I was swept along, feet off the floor, bit scary for a 10 year old at the time. Also I think one of the asbestos panels at the back of the Bob bank collapsed due to the crowd pressure.
