Kellyman Up Front

Tue Jan 27, 2026 11:16 pm

I'm still undecided if Barnsley were poor, or if we made them look poor. Did Kellyman up front enable us to play more football, without Salech getting involved in physical tussels resulting in more turnovers of possession?

Kellyman was sharp closing down their defenders and goalkeeper, allowing the rest of the team to squeeze up and press. Salech obviously works hard and does a lot of pressing too, but I felt Kellyman helped give us more fluidity tonight.

He linked up very well with Willock and perhaps Willock was given more space to score his goals because Kellyman was up there instead of Salech.

Of course, it's only one game and Salech will obviously be crucial for us when he comes back into the team and we have to play a different type of game.

Tanner put over two great crosses in the first half, which Salech probably would have been there to finish, but Kellyman was probably involved in the build up to put Tanner in the position to put over the crosses.

It's another added option and a very good dilemma to have to switch things up and give the opposition different problems to think about.

Thought he did very well tonight. Him and Willock linked extremely well together.

Just posted BBM's comments on another thread and seems he sees him as a striker. Said he's seen him play there before when he was younger so knew he'd do a good job.

He played a lot of his youth football up front when he was at villa, I think his press was very good tonight he didn't give the defenders a minutes peace and his composure for his goal just shows he is calm in front of the posts

His best game for me so far.

A very good summary of Kellyman and the game in general.

Kellyman worked his socks off and deserved his goal.

I personally think we made them look poor. We have played really well most of the season but I think there's been something missing until last night everything clicked into place especially when Turnbull came on. That second half was fantastic to watch.

It will be a headache for BBM when Salech is fit but if Kellyman continues to play like he did yesterday it's a no brainer for me.

The way I see it is, other managers will have looked at us tonight to see how we would fare without our leading goal scorer and must be thinking it doesn’t seem to matter who BBM selects. The system, skill and work rate just carries on.

Completely agree! We outplayed Barnsley bar a spell in the first half. You could see they feared us, and Omari Kellyman posed problems that Yousef Salech usually wouldn’t!

That score had been threatening for a while, and the bonus of a clean sheet was the icing on the cake!

Keeping us 10 points ahead of 3rd place made it a very good night all round! :ayatollah:

I thought he was quiet in the first 30mins but after that he was causing Barnsley all sorts of problems and they couldn't handle him and willock

Could he lead a line against the majority of bruisers we see in this division? I'm not so sure.

Great game yesterday in a very important role. Goal and an assist; both stats he has to improve on!

Id have started Robbo; so credit again to BBM.

I was enjoying your post until I read the bit about Salech getting on the end of a Tanner cross.

Kellyman would struggle against stockport type defenders but I don' t see him challenging for anything in the air,but with his quick skills he could be getting us,and few penalties

Loved his reaction after scoring his goal.

Not often you see that from a loan player, he's clearly enjoying his football here.

His finish was ice cool.

BBM had a game plan, knew what type of team they were, and they wanted to play rather than fight, so selecting Omari wasn't an issue. He did well enough; he is a gifted young man, lightning feet for someone so tall.

He has a lot of filling out to go, so he may end up a centre forward, but i think we were just so much better at what we do than what they want to do, he had an armchair ride.

It's strange, the big academies are knocking these very attacking midfielders out for fun over the recent years. England has a glut of them, but few strikers or 6's.

It's all to do with how kids are developed. Academies used to value size and strength far more than they do now. It seems to all be about technical ability now

He's on another level to this league when he wants to be. Hold up play, awareness, vision. If we go up and Cardiff can get him permanently that'll be a great signing. Would Tan pay out though?

Careful mate, you can't bad mouth Salech on here without being on the end of personal abuse.
