I really don't think he's good enough.
Probably for this league, definitely for the Championship - if we go up.
He had two heavy touches today which would have given us corners if he'd left it.
He's too keen and I'm afraid hasn't learnt how to play in this league like Ashford and Tanner have.
His pace is great but there's nothing at the end of it.
Hope he proves me wrong but I think it's time to let him go.

He looks like a player who’s putting a lot of pressure on himself to deliver. Obviously, he knows this is a big opportunity to stake a claim, especially as he’s not as young as some of the other academy players coming through. There’s clearly a player in there, he showed that against Chelsea but he needs to show more self-belief and a bit more swagger.
I feel most of our wingers are in the same boat. Tanner is being credited with three assists, but let’s be honest, one was a mishit shot that Chambers scored, and the other two were outstanding finishes from Turnbull and Colwill. He hardly put those on a plate.
Willock’s final ball is nowhere near where it should be, and while Ashford has improved and you can’t fault his work rate, he clearly needs more consistency in key attacking moments, final ball and finishing. I’d put I D in the same bracket as most of our wide players. Willock aside, he’s an older pro and should be delivering more consistently, they’re all high-potential players. But I wouldn’t be surprised if their real consistency comes around 26, at which point they’ll likely be reliable Championship-level players, whether with us or another club.

Against compact defenses (aka every single team we play in League 1) I tend to agree.
Against better teams that play with higher lines and leave space in behind? That's when you'll see his strengths.
He's a limited player, but he does have good movement, pace and finishing. Not every single player in our squad will be good enough to be a key player, it's just not realistic. You need versatile, hungry players that are willing to take a lower wage yet can still make a difference when they're called upon.

He was literally brought on with 5 minutes to go and he’s ’not good enough’, he should have been brought on instead of Willock on the left.

Ned,
I’ve said it for years Isaak Davies aged 24 a Striker 7 goals in 71 games for Cardiff.
He’s good enough for this league ( Div 3) but 100% not for the Championship.
He’s just got pace

Today he was hardly given any time to get into game.
Stats for a striker don't look good but how many game has he actually started?
Also how many games has he played or came on as a striker?
Probably less than 10

He offers something that Willock and Ashford dont and thats raw pace and desire.
Ashford isnt far ahead to be honest. All 3 of these should be having a field day in L1 but are not.
Its a weak area of our squad.

I am disappointed in him, as I have been a massive advocate.
He is a forward, I don't think he has the instincts of a winger, which really is a midfielder in BBM's system.
I would have had him ahead of Robinson, who offers nothing as a lone striker apart from finishing, but he missed a good chance yesterday and an open goal a few games ago.
I hope BBM's going nowhere, so we are playing his version of football for the foreseeable future. Davies needs to be in a team at least playing a more direct 433. IMO it's horses for courses.

He didn’t have much chance to do anything yesterday but I tend to agree. If he and Ashford weren’t “one of our own” I don’t think they’d get the patience a lot of fans give them. Neither are good enough for me.
Sun Jan 25, 2026 8:47 am
The DNA of this system is Pepball, and the great man himself has gone through world-class wingers like Spinal Tap drummers.
I am unsure how good Ashford is, but I am in no doubt he'll be playing through the middle for the majority of his careera.
Davies is a weapon in a counterattacking team, and that's just not us.

I feel the opposite. I’d say he’s better suited to the Championship, where the majority of teams look to attack, leaving space for him to utilise his pace, alongside a higher overall standard of player.
I don’t think you can use his goal-scoring record for Cardiff against him. A lot of his appearances have been off the bench, and whenever he’s had a run in the team, it’s been disrupted by injury.
If you’re judging him as a number 9, then his only consistent run of games in that role was on loan for a struggling team, where his conversion rate was decent in a poor league, similar to League One, with a few top sides within it.
In summary, he’s scored four goals this season. For comparison, so has Ashford, Willock has two, Kellyman has two, and Tanner has none in 11 appearances. Would you want more from him? Yes, but I believe that with his pace, he is most effective when more progressive teams come to play!! There’s more to come and would definitely like to see a fully fit ID in the Championship next season.

Have to agree - final pass or shot is not good enough. Needs to start concentrating on these issues or he will never make it.

I thought Tanner played worse, how many times did he have the ball away?

I have performed a 180 on Tanner. I fully accept that Tanner is probably the end of the passing chain, but i think we need that. When he gets the ball, he runs, crosses (blindly), shoots, or loses the ball, and i for one, applaud that in him.
Nothing worked for him yesterday; he is that kind of player, but he has been the difference over the last few weeks.
We need wingers who excel in the system, not sure what they are, but Pep (and BBM) love a 10 out there, without pace, who will cut inside, then pass backwards. I think its Peps flaw, whereas Arteta (another Pep graduate) attacks through his wingers.

I’m not to sure on him tbh,I think he gave ball away and they nearly scored from it yesterday Stockport, just feel like he’s a one tricky pony,a lot of his crosses go to far, sure he took a few corners aswell yesterday didn’t beat the first man and I’m sure a free kick he took was the same headed out by the first man

Thats where i am as well.
The countermeasure is out there on how to slow down the Pep model. Pack the middle and force the wingers inside into the crowd. Inevitably, they take that option as they are inverted and more comfortable cutting inside and recycle the ball and we start all over again. Against weaker teams, it normally works, but against teams more evenly matched it becomes a stalemate.
Tanner is willing to go outside and break the lines, causing panic. It just never worked yesterday
Sun Jan 25, 2026 12:56 pm
In his defence, he never gets a run in the team.
The odd five or ten minutes is doing him no good.
Also, he has scored few goals for us this season.
However, if we are promoted, a number of our squad may need to be questioned at a higher level as many were around during last seasons nightmare.

If Isaac doesn't get a few starts at 9 over the next couple of games, then we know BBM doesn't rate him.

Tanner was terrible yesterday. He kept trying to pass the ball or cross the ball when there was a Stockport player stood in front of him.
Saying that, everyone is allowed a bad game and Davies is definitely off form. I don’t see him making the team if we get back into the Championship.

Davies is what he is an explosive winger. I think he'll spend the majority of his career in and out come on from the bench he's that type.
As far as Tanner is concerned he's on fire 2 assists against Bradford and another one yesterday. Easily our most creative player the last few weeks. Does he lose the ball yes but to make an omelette you've got to break a few eggs

Built a career based on a few goals in a league that Wilf Kanga scored a hat trick in this weekend

Compared to other attacking midfielders/wingers
Assists - top 1%
Chances created - top 3%
Successful crosses - top 4%
Dispossessed - top 11%

Easily our best option alongside Willock for me. The two that make things happen
