BREAKING BRIAN BARRY-MURPHY: “THURSDAY 22ND JANUARY 2026 “

Thu Jan 22, 2026 7:49 am

:bluebird: :bluebird: “BRIAN BARRY MURPHY WILL UPDATE CARDIFF CITY FANS TODAY” :bluebird: :bluebird:

Thursday 22nd January 2026

BBM:

"Rubin is flying. He's making brilliant progress.

He's back on the pitch, alongside us but not with us. We're hoping he's back training fully in two weeks and then it's about measuring how much team training he needs before he's back in action."
:bluescarf:

BBM: “ Injury update “

"David Turnbull hasn't trained because he's been ill.

Ronan Kpakio is back in training, trained fully this.

Perry Ng hasn't trained so is a doubt. But there is an expectation on my part that he could train today. If it goes well today and tomorrow then he could be available. Genuine 50/50.

Ryan Wintle has had an issue with his neck. He's slightly more likely to play than Perry but still a doubt. "

BRIAN BARRY-MURPHY:

“I’ve been pretty open about the areas of the team that we need to improve,” he said. “From my understanding it will probably be towards the latter stage of the window that it may be possible to do something.

“We believe the players will improve a lot in the second half of the season. That’s probably why we don’t feel as if we need to do a lot, but we’re still focused on improving the squad and not neglecting the fact that we want to push the club forward very aggressively, very quickly.“

“So if the right players become available, which we think they will in the last week of the window, then hopefully we can improve the squad, while remaining obsessively focused on our own players.”

“ SALECH “

“I imagine there’s been a lot of talk about him, hasn’t there?” he said. “But I’ve heard nothing from Patrick (Deboys, head of recruitment) and the club about any official approaches, so obviously I’m very pleased.

“I make my feelings known on all the players to the bosses, and he’s a player who’s going to attract a lot of attention based on how well he’s done and how well he’s doing currently.

“The club want to protect our own interests, show Yousef how much we value him, and the fact that he feels the same is very important.”

“ SALECH “

Barry-Murphy believes Salech’s ambition and confidence are central to his rise, and says the club is determined to help him reach the highest level.

“He has ambitions, he’s a very confident guy, and he backs that up with how hard he’s working every single day to improve,” he added. “The reason he’s so confident is because he’s so good, and he wants to play at the highest level.

“He’ll have designs on playing at the very highest level of European or English football, and our job is to give him the platform to do that, hopefully with us. Thankfully, he feels that as well.”

“I can’t wait for Saturday.”

“The pitch is looking really good, and we’ll be facing a team who have caused so many problems for us in the game at Edgeley Park. We’re really excited to test ourselves and see how much we’ve improved since that game, and try to play our best and win.

“Dave Challinor has done a great job with them, and obviously with them being in the Play-Offs last season they’re a powerful, skilful team.

“We’re fully aware of their strengths and how much of a punch they pack in their attacking play, but we feel as if we’re in a pretty good place ourselves and we’re looking forward to a really good game where both teams will go for it.”

Re: BREAKING BRIAN BARRY-MURPHY: “THURSDAY 22ND JANUARY 2026

Gabriel joined City in the summer from Ligue 1 side Auxerre and reflected on his time as a Bluebird so far.

The centre-back's resilience culminated in an impressive showing against the Bantams last time out.

Gabriel :

“It was a challenging first couple of months but it seems to be getting better since January. My first game against Bradford City, I gave away a penalty; the second game was against Wigan Athletic, which was better.

“Then the Leyton Orient and Reading games were tough for me. It was difficult to come in as a new player and you don’t play as you want to.

“My teammates, the manager and my family have helped me through that. I would be surprised if it didn't hit anyone hard. I’m an emotional guy so it was tough, especially as a new player.

"I’ve learned to be resilient. I'm strong in my faith and have leant on that. It seems to be bouncing back at the moment."

Brian Barry-Murphy has strong options at his disposal in the centre-back position, with Will Fish, Calum Chambers and Dylan Lawlor, along with Gabriel, all making a large contribution so far this season.

“It’s amazing," he added. "I don’t think I’ve been in a team where the competition for one position has had so many players that can play in any given week.

"It’s good for the team, keeps everyone hungry and fresh so we’re going into games and everyone is feeling like they can perform at 100%. It makes training really competitive.

“We’ve got quite a good mix of ages across the team. The more experienced guys have won leagues before and have been promoted.

"We’re balancing that with the younger players who maybe haven’t experienced it before and everything is good at the moment.

“It does help that the younger players haven’t experienced it because they’re so enthusiastic. We have such a good spirit in the changing room, there’s a great atmosphere."

BBM:

“The players are very aware of the demands that we’ve put on them. We’ve done really well so far, but the performance levels still aren’t where we’d want them.

“We don’t take any victory for granted in this league or any performance. Using certain markers, we can measure how much we’ve improved from the first half of the season, and that will be the case on Saturday.

"We were fortunate to get a point against Stockport in the corresponding fixture, and on Saturday we’ll have to prove that we’ve improved significantly to give ourselves a chance to win the game.”

There it is the "BIG IF" at the end of the window ,
it's been the same mantra for season after season no matter who is at the helm i hope Murphy gets what he deserves as we push for promotion but for fans it's always a hope that we sign some decent players.so nothing concrete about how many he murphy would like in apart from a left back.

It's not a bit if when he said he thinks they will be available.

If he wasn't confident, he wouldn't say anything.

Maybe you'll be proved right, but I'm hopeful there will be at least a couple of additions before the deadline after these comments.

Ned my friend calm down.

BBM is doing a magnificent job so far.

But I honestly believe he’s not being back by Tan, well he’s not if we are honest.

I'm calm, got a right to my opinion as much as Monty.

The manager has said he expects the players he wants to become available in the last week of the window and I see that as a good thing.

I hope your right and we do sign a few quality loans we just have to cover injuries red cards that's all I am saying we need promotion this season as I have pointed out on transfer post rubin has been out a long time we recently had bagan kapakio kellyman out injured what if they were serious injuries? Or asong as rubin.
With the squad now we are fine but with 20 games to go can we afford to take the risk nobody will be injured or suspended for 3 matches with such a small squad ,just want us to be promoted and not falling away due to injuries and no replacements coming in which is dictated from above.
