Incredible it goes to show people have turned there back on football when you think of some of those clubs now they are not getting half that,
granted there was a lot of standing then rather than sitting which has effected the attendances capacity where a lot bigger then all due to the seating arrangements.

Crowds across the country are at their highest level since the 1960s. The really low crowds were in the 80s and 90s.

We have suffered as a lot of teams, with say a midweek game, but shown on sky red button,
Most tv games were match of the day and FA cup, you had to attend to watch back in the day.

I was at that game. It was the shock of the round as we were top of the second division and Brentford were a fourth division side. The crowd would have been around about our average. In fact i seem to remember it was pouring down so it would have been a few thousand more if weather was ok.
In those days the cup attracted very good crowds. Few of us had season tickets in those days, in fact it may have been only the seating areas where they were sold in any numbers, so we were used to paying on the day. I think this is one of the reasons - not the only one though- for poor cup crowds these days.

Just a business these days, the normal fan is irrelevant to the white collar business men

You are right, it was pouring down. So much so that a backpass got stuck in a puddle of water allowing the Brentford player to score an easy goal. I believe they were in the old fourth division at the time, so it was a major cup upset.

It was the upset of the round. Thanks for confirming the rain. It must have been really bad if we can both remember it considering it was 55 years ago!!.

Monty,
Sky and live matches on all different channels is hurting attendances

I love the replay date for the Rochdale game ‘Replay tomorrow’!!!
Managers moan today if they have to play two games in 4 days

Generally speaking I think crowds have never been higher but the FA cup is a different story & every season they seem to find another way to piss off the people & the smaller clubs that made it what it was back then.

Biggest attendance I've been in at Ninian was 56,000+ City v Arsenal FA cup Jan 4th 1969, drew 0-0 but lost the replay 2-0 in front of 54,000+

I was at that game as well. I was a young boy then and went to the toilet with about half an hour to kick off and couldn't get back onto the terraces. I Watched the game through the railings under Radio Ninian until we were let into the Enclosure. Didn't see much from there either.
