Updated - looks like Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is going back there until the end of the season

Manchester United have sacked Ruben Amorim.

The Portuguese manager made an outburst in his press conference after Sunday's 1-1 draw at Leeds, which appeared to be aimed at the club's hierarchy.

Darren Fletcher will take over on an interim basis.

Can’t believe he’s gone before Thomas Frank, at least he’s got them trying to play attacking football. Mind you I suppose it’s like the Chelsea manager he’s spoken out about interference from those above.

Not really surprised with this one. Certainly didn't help.his cause with the comments he made to the media after the Leeds game.
Plus the main issue with him having the worst record of any Man u manager in recent times

So that's Amorim and Maresca getting sacked for daring to say they want to pick their own team without interference.

No manager with integrity should ever want to manage Man Utd and Chelsea, which I guess is why Chelsea are bringing in Liam Rosenior. I wonder how long it will take him to get fed up of the interference?

I think we will start seeing more managers speaking out at club interference holding them back, as that will give them a nice pay out by getting sacked, plus it'll protect their reputations saying their teams underperforming was because of the hierarchies interference instead of their own personal performance, as they were restricted from signing or playing certain players.

Shocking. Clubs give managers zero time anymore

The bloke was pretty useless. £250 million a squad full of talented players to start with and they finished 15th last year

Must be something that's gone on behind the scenes, especially with his comments yesterday.

Some managers may choose to avoid that club. No manager has really done well there since Sir Alex Ferguson retired.

I get that he was the hardest act to follow, but he retired over 12 years ago now.

Yeah exactly. Man U are one of the very biggest clubs in world.
They should have moved on from Fergie by now and be competing

I think Gareth Southgate could be a good shout as a replacement

Wouldn't happen with a DoF or Sporting |Director :)

Too many experts in the background, The Glaziers, Ratcliff, CEO, DoF, player recruitment, technical directors.

Their recruitment has been awful, they have 2 big money CM's who can barely run, god knows how many decent championship centre halfs, umpteen unproven strikers......Amorim has done well to be 6th and he is not great.

Their stadium was once one of the biggest and best now its a crumbling relic of yesteryear.

God help them if he is.

Won't be surprised if they try and get Maresca now he's available.

But they might have the same issue as he spoke out against the Chelsea board.

Very good manager though.

The search for Manchester United's next manager is on.

Darren Fletcher will take charge for the next few matches before United appoint a caretaker manager for the rest of the season.

Former midfielder and current under-18s coach Fletcher spent 11 years playing for United under Sir Alex Ferguson.

Looks like Ole will be their manager until the end of the season, when a permanent appointment will be made.

On taking the role of head coach on a temporary basis after the sacking of Ruben Amorim: "It's an amazing honour to be able to lead a Manchester United team. I don't even think it was in my wildest dreams that it was something that could potentially happen. To lead the team is an amazing honour and something I'm really proud to do - not in the circumstances I expected it to happen, obviously it's something that doesn't sit quite easy with me, but I've got a job to do and I'll think for the great honour and pride in doing that."

Fletcher said he has had a "conversation" with director of football Jason Wilcox and they will speak more regarding his role after the Burnley match.
