I was lucky enough to see them in Sophia Gardens c.1981 but missed the previous (some say better) event in the old Capitol Theatre on Queen Street, a couple of years earlier

Some other great ‘festive season’ songs out there, but I switch off fully whenever I hear the start of the excruciating ‘Santa Baby’

They yanks have Thanksgiving at the end of November which is their big turkey day as well as their bigger holiday and most people get 2 days off work for that. There is no Boxing Day here and Xmas being done & dusted by Dec 26 morning with no xmas specials on tv or anything like that was very disconcerting for a few years.

We usually have beef prime rib now as does most of California judging by the amount on sale in Costco but anything goes really. I tried lamb a few times but it's NZ lamb or USA lamb & neither is great so we stick to prime rib now for the most part.

There's also a lot of sport on tv xmas day which is never a bad thing.

It has to be Slade, such a well written tune. I think the very talented and nice bloke that is Noddy Holder said he'd never have to work again after it became successful and it became successful and timeless for very good reason. Lots of notables including what's been written before but my second and third would be Wizzard and Wham, both timeless and excellent songs. I've also complied a 47 hour Spotify Christmas playlist as I'm quite sad like that.

I was in NY recently and it was playing in one of the shops. For some silly reason I just stood there smiling.
Never realised it had crossed the pond. And, yes itis the best Xmas song

Slade, White Christmas, and Bowie/Bing. Driving Home for Christmas is also a great song. Like many carols too. Don’t hear FGTH anymore even tho it’s not really a Xmas song.

They were more than helped to get the crowd in the mood by the support band - Status Quo. Incredible to think that these two were on the same bill in Barry!!! Cost about 50p pence

I didn't think I'd ever heard of that one so watched it on Youtube and of course I know it. But like a lot of people I always thought it was Paul Mccartney. Great song though.
