Furious Ian Holloway blasts Swindon Town star's huge ban for Cardiff City incidents
By Glen Williams

The Swindon Town player has received a lengthy ban and a fine for two separate incidents which occurred during the match with the Bluebirds

Ian Holloway has launched a furious defence of Swindon Town captain Ollie Clarke after the midfielder was handed a huge seven-match ban following incidents against Cardiff City.

Clarke had been under investigation for two separate offences during the second half of Swindon’s Carabao Cup first-round tie with Cardiff, with the Football Association finally confirming the punishment on December 19. The 33-year-old has also been fined £2,750 for “acting in an improper manner and/or using indecent behaviour towards an opposing player”.

The suspension relates to two incidents involving Cardiff players — one in the 57th minute and another in the 94th — though the FA is yet to publish its full written reasons.

Speaking after learning of the ban, Holloway admitted he was baffled by both the severity of the punishment and the length of time it had taken to reach a conclusion. Sign up to our Cardiff City WhatsApp channel here.

I don’t want to talk about it really, because I think I’ll get myself into trouble,” Holloway told the Swindon Advertiser. “It’s actually a ridiculous amount of games compared to some of the other things I’ve seen in football throughout my time.

“I don’t understand how it’s taken this long to deal with it, and our process of talking to them and appealing and all that is absolute nonsense.”

“If I get into trouble, I get into trouble. Why am I getting into trouble for telling the truth? I’m not slaughtering anyone. I’m just saying it’s absolute nonsense
.”

Apparently, it’s seven (7) games, and that shows the seriousness of the ‘offence(s)

The 33-year-old midfielder admitted two charges at an independent Regulatory Commission of acting in an improper manner or using indecent behaviour to an opponent.

The charges relate to incidents in the 57th minute and 94th minute of Swindon’s Carabao Cup tie with Cardiff City on 12 August.

Neither Swindon Town nor the Football Association have disclosed the nature of allegations Clarke admitted, with the commission's full written reasons being released "in due course".

The thing is, Cardiff City TV has the full 90 minutes online for free (https://tv.cardiffcityfc.co.uk/videos/6 ... 8f73cacba7). So I went back to have a look, the only thing I can see is it looks as though he humps Colwill to the ground and potentially reaches around his front. I really struggled to see anything in the 94th minute, perhaps he's touching Salech lower than it seems at this angle? Those are two potentials assuming it was physical rather than just comments made
