Erol Bulut Sacked by Antalyaspor

Mon Dec 22, 2025 8:16 am

After just 10 games in charge.

Its got me thinking about that god-awful style he had us playing where we had Karlan Grant and Josh Bowler receiving the ball on the half way line, back to goal and coached to pass it backwards. Horrible football. Kudos to Grant who managed to get some ok numbers for goals and assists!

I wonder what the thought process was when we recruited him?

I'm a bit surprised he only lasted that long. This could be the end of his management career.

Mentioning Josh Bowler Bulut had him playing on the opposite wing. Blackpool have him playing in the middle and he looks more comfortable there. Perhaps we should have done that.

Wasn't he Dalman's mate and it was Dalman's turn to pick a manager after Tan's previous failures.

Virtually every manager we have had in the last 15 years have not gone on to make it, in fact only ever hear nothing or they don’t last anywhere.

Think you're probably right about it being his managerial career over, unless he wants to go into the Turkish lower leagues which I doubt.

Wanted him to be successful with us but the end to his first season should have been the warning sign (which I didn't see as important as it was if I'm honest). And obviously the start to last season was horrific.

Would he have kept us up if he'd stayed? We'll never know but I doubt it, right decision to sack him.

I also highly doubt that he'd have us battling for promotion from this league with this squad.

Bowler never really got going for us and then struggled in his next Championship loan. But I did like Grant, he was extremely hard working.

Really surprised Omar Riza hasn't found a new job.

In Division 7 of the Cardiff and District Walking Football Sunday League.

Standard is too high for him probably.

Agree on Grant. Didn't West Brom fans claim he was lazy though when he was signing for us?

He certainly wasn't lazy!

To be fair to Riza, hes a long way off having the ability to be a number 1, really at any level. But I don't think hes a bad guy. His level is academy IMHO. Which is what he has done previously with decent success. Hes not a championship level first team coach or manager though. Hes not really first team level at any full time level.

I wonder what the pay off was.
Some managers make, a career out of being sacked

Have to say I was very wrong on this one. I remember being delighted after the end of the season when he got a new deal…. How wrong I was!

We really have had some awful managers over the last few years. I think that’s one of the reasons I’m enjoying this year so much. I have real faith in the team and manager, I look forward to the games now. Even when we lose I think we’ll win the next one.

The only semi successful manager after us has to be Ole, he may not have won anything, but is joint highest finish in the premier league since fergie retired, and in fairness they were exciting to watch. Even if they were 3-0 up with 2 minutes left it could end 4-3.

Other than that, every manager seems to peak at our club, or are completely destroyed by it. Dave Jones had some decent clubs after us but no measurable success

Recently, they announced Ole's 3 "up and comers" he wanted to sign for the rebuild.... Haaland, Bellingham and Rice; all of which were very much in the affordable and available catagory for United. They ended up with Ronaldo, and Van De Beek and someone else who flopped. He was over-ruled.

Just imagine... :laughing6:

Ole gets ALOT of praise from United fans as a manager.

Whilst he took us down, I think Omar Riza needs a little ‘slack’ from us. It was a tough gig, and he suffered mentally from his time in charge, from which I’m not too sure he has recovered

Ole is an interesting one. Adored by United fans, but that may be partly down to his time there as a player.

He failed everywhere else apart from Molde though.

I always said that during his time with us, he was a really nice person with no ego - which you wouldn't have expected given his playing career. But just didn't manage us well.

Also for all the love he gets from United fans, he didn't win a trophy which is surely the main target for that club.

Thought he was an awful asignment for us. It felt like it was a high profile name signing which was very rosky. We should have gone for Pulis.

I'm sorry Chris, I can't agree with you on this one.

He may well have suffered mentally, but it's down to the individual to pull themselves out of the situation that they find themselves in i.e. resign.

Whilst Bulut had an awful start, we dropped into the lower leagues on the back of Riza. He just wasn't up to the job. :bluebird:

Jim, respect your thoughts, as always!

I fully agree he was the direct cause of our relegation, but it was clear to me that Omer Riza was a ‘broken man’ way before he was relieved of his duties. The loss of his beloved dad affected him hugely too, and I’m told he’s still not back to where he was

For that, I have sympathy! :ayatollah:
