INTERESTING COMPARISON

After 20 games last season (christmas) Birmingham, who eventually run away with the league had 48 points seven more than we've got. When you consider the amount of money Brum had spent in the summer and also the coming January window and how young and inexperienced our squad is we're not that far off them.

That is interesting, surprised the gap is only seven points.

But I still don't see anyone running away with this league like they did. We're in a great position to get promoted and win the league at this point in the season but I think there will be some bumps in the road.

Think we'll get there, but not like they did because of how much they spent.

Over 20 games 7 is quite a lot.

Over 40 games it’s 14.

Over 46 games it’s 16.

If we end the season 16 less than them last year we will be very much up there.

Personally we should not even struggle against these small clubs never mind being in this league.

The majority of these clubs we are playing have fan bases of 4,000-7,000 Max, We really are beyond Massive compared to these Clubs

Our base will drop like a stone if we din' t get promoted i cannot see us selling out away if we are in this division next season, its a novelty this season to be between big boys with away following at these little grounds ,but we will not be that big next season, if we are still here and fail to get back to the championship.

In the other clubs defence here, we’ve become the “ones to beat” and if we don’t take or create chances, a set piece or break away goal is always on the cards.

We had Lincoln pinned yesterday, but failed to create a good chance, Ng’s goal an example of us trying to create the perfect opportunity although it was an excellent goal.

What I mean is, sometimes lower league teams beat premiership teams because it’s the game of their lives. Same happened to us at Burton, they dug deep and we were extremely wasteful

We're not going to do what Brum did (111 points) but 90 points should be more than enough to get us promoted.

Thats the fear amongst some of us.

Even more so if we go up it could be a waste of time if Tan decides to stay. I've seen us yo yo between the leagues over my 50 odd years following the club dur to bad ownership and it took Sam Hamman to stop the rot. I prey we don't make the same mistakes.

Football is on the pitch not in the crowds mate.

Bigger clubs than us have come to this level and been stuck here.

I agree with this, we are a big club by league 1 standards but that doesn't give us a god given right to 3 points every game we still have to go out and earn them points and this league isn't as easy as people think it's extremely competitive this season

Agree to some extent, but what BBM, his coaches, and his squad, have achieved with an exceptionally limited budget in comparison to Birmingham City, needs to be respected to this point!

There are two ways of looking at it, I guess…

Firstly, you could take the philosophy that top is top, no matter how many points it is by come the end of the season, and the team in first place (or second as a back up) will still be promoted

Or secondly, we can take the maccydee route of ‘demean/devalue at every opportunity’, ensuring that we are never ‘happy’ with our team/performances/position at any point

For clarification, I like Neil, but he (often mischievously) likes to point out the downsides of our club, whilst ‘beefing up’ the lofty (for them) achievements of his ‘other’ team (a luxury most of us don’t have) which is fine when it’s deserved, but not good when things are going comparatively well…like they are right now!

We’re doing more than okay and improving, winning 5 out of the last 6 games, and putting in a creditable performance ‘live’ on international TV against World Club Champions Chelsea, so what is not to enjoy versus recent seasons? :ayatollah:

When have I demeaned my club? Certainly not in this post. The post was demeaning my club saying we should be winning all our games whereas I pointed out we don’t have a right to do anything because we are a big club because it’s on the pitch that stuff happens.

I am positive about the club I get pelted and you are pelting because I pointed out something completely accurate. Of course as Annis posted it you are going to do that but at least support your flawed argument better. Annis was literally being negative about the club and I called him out on that.

Ps I like you too but you can be very patronising and judgemental on here.

I mostly disagree Chris and I think maccydee is spot on here as small crowds don’t distinguish results or promotion. Football is played on the pitch.
Look at teams like Brentford and Bournemouth for example.

L1 teams that play us often punch above their weight just as we did against Chelsea. That makes getting out of this league maybe even more difficult.

However, you are also spot on when you say we’re doing more than ok. In fact, I’d say we are doing brilliantly with a young and mostly inexperienced squad.
L1 is a tough league with real tough lower league players who are mostly streetwise.

I think we’ll achieve promotion but I don’t feel entitled about it just because we are a ‘bigger’ club.
Most on here (by far) thought we’d either struggle this season or be around mid table.

How many were Wrexham on? I don’t care if we are first or second. I just want us up. And I don’t fancy a play off as
Those clubs know how to take us on in one off games.

Brum spent half as much last season on one player as to the value of half our squad. We aren’t blowing cash. But hopefully bbm is backed for the strength we need to stop slipping up and convert those chances.

Well said.

I’ve never said we aren’t doing brilliantly. I’ve even said I think we can go and promote twice. I’ve also said the football we are playing is light years ahead of a lot of stuff I’m watching at championship level. I’ve not said anything about Oxford being superior to Cardiff because at the moment I think Cardiff would smash Oxford. I think Cardiff would be comfortably mid table championship at the moment and with continued improvement better than that.

I spend time literally calling out people for being negative about my club and did so here. Very weird post.
