So, it’s been questioned that we are not a ‘
big’ club, and our current position in EFL League One suggests that we are currently on a low ebb
However, I firmly believe we are a ‘
big’ club with the potential to sustain a place in the Premier League, if we had the right governance to get us there
We have history, we have the stadium, we have the training facilities, the youth set up, the support (when things are good), and a catchment that most clubs would be envious of
Notwithstanding current League positions, ownership, etc., of the listed clubs, which do you think we are at least as ‘
big’ as on a level playing field?
For this vote, ‘
multiple choices can be made!

It’s all ifs and buts. We can only class ourselves as a big club if we do sustain PL status and stay comfortably. No relegation battles every year. We have the potential but we are not there yet. 18k avg crowds in league 1 ain’t bad but that’s still not the best in the division. If you go by % of stadium filled, we fall much lower. If we were truly a big club we would be getting a lot more home crowds right now. That’s my take.
As for your poll I picked 18 and left out Wolves and Burnley.

I would say only Bournemouth, Brentford, Brighton and Burnley in terms of potential. Could chuck Fulham in but they're a London club and that matters.
Wolves are a big club despite their struggles. I live in the Midlands and the locals are as passionate about football as we are.
But at the end of the day, all 20 are bigger than us at the moment because they're two leagues ahead of us.
But we have huge potential and with a new owner, we can realise that potential.

All the b's are smaller in my opinion
Bournemouth
Brighton
Brentford
Burnley
I'm on the fence with Fulham because I remember that they had a neutral stand(dunno if that's still the case) which makes me think they struggled to get the numbers
I think wolves are slightly bigger than us
Forest and palace I think are bigger and the rest we are nowhere near

I seem to have miss read your poll. Ignore my choices

We are not a big club.to be so you need have spent the majority of your history in the top division .in a 126 years we have spent only 17 season in the top flight.we are just in a big area so can always attract big crowds for big games.

There are four tiers to PL club size.
Man Utd and Liverpool are the biggest and nobody will ever join them. Man City will never be at that level, no matter how much they spend.
Then you've got Man City, Chelsea, Arsenal, Newcastle, Spurs etc.
Then teams like Everton, Leeds etc.
The teams beginning with B the fourth bracket.

My bad! I wrote the thread in two ways!
We are looking for a list of clubs ‘bigger’ than ours!
I’ve changed my own list, and you can change yours on this occasion!

If i were to post a list of the 30 biggest clubs in UK I think we just may make that but it would be close. Even if we were in the championship there are may 6/7 clubs that are bigger when you take history and time playing top division. So not being in the top 25 clubs in the uk Can we really call ourselves a big club ?
Only several continuous years in the top division will elevate us up that table and not 2 years in the last 60 plus years in the top division like we have done
Wed Dec 17, 2025 3:30 pm
Not this again. It's usually vs. Derby County in the championship days.
Penis measuring contest. I couldn't care less if a club think they are bigger than us.
As subjective as it gets.
If I was going to participate, as we stand now, I'd click them all. We're WAY off every prem club as we stand.
No-one on here will like this, and I don't really like typing it... but there a plausible argument that we're the "3rd biggest" in Wales right now. We can whip out and dust off our FA cup, which is fair, but I think your position in the pyramid speaks volumes for size over past achievements.
A pub debate that will never end.

Here's a questionable thought.
I did not include Forest.
I know they have a history but, like ours it is getting a bit long in the tooth. I also think as a two club city, their pull could be diluted should County do well.

That's how i see it forrest more than us though Palace not.

We think we're a bigger club than Crystal Palace and Nottingham Forest?
Stop it!

I'm cashing out of this topic, it may be a long one...

Be interesting to see what a Championship vote would like Chris
Wed Dec 17, 2025 3:59 pm
I voted Forest as bigger based on their time under Clough where they won league and European cup
Wed Dec 17, 2025 4:02 pm
Forest & Wolves seem to be the 2 that people are on the fence about.

It’s all about opinions, and the results so far are very interesting!
How are we not equal to, or bigger than, Crystal’s Palace on a level playing field?
I understand they are a Landan club, and are doing very well in the Premier League right now, but look at their ground and capacity of
26225!
We have a 30%+ larger capacity, with room to expand, and we can fill our ground when circumstances allow!

Interesting results so far, and pretty much in-line with what I thought!
12 clubs clearly seen as ‘
bigger’ than ours, and hard to argue with any of those
Arsenal
Aston Villa
Chelsea
Everton
Leeds United
Liverpool
Manchester City
Manchester United
Newcastle United
Sunderland
Tottenham Hotspur
West Ham United4 clubs where opinion appears divided, and a debate could be had on the merits of each either way
Burnley
Crystal Palace
Nottingham Forest
Wolverhampton Wanderers 4 clubs remain and on level terms, none are ‘
bigger’ than us, despite Burnley having ‘won’ more over their history
AFC Bournemouth
Brentford
Brighton and Hove Albion
Burnley

Another spin on this subject worded differently
List of clubs with the most UNFULFILLED POTENTIAL Cardiff city would be somewhere in the top 5 list definitely in my humble opinion

Hi Allan.
They could be, but everyone has potential to be better surely? Otherwise what would be the point.

It be interesting to see what people’s thoughts are for championship and league one teams as well.
Great thread by the way.
