WORLD CUP RIP-OFF FOR SUPPORTERS?

World Cup ticket prices 'monumental betrayal' say fans' group
By Dale Johnson

Supporters hoping to attend next year's World Cup final face paying thousands of pounds for the cheapest ticket.
Fans' group Football Supporters Europe has said it is "astonished" by Fifa's "extortionate" pricing strategy, and called for ticket sales to be "halted immediately".

The Football Supporters' Association's England Fans' Embassy said it was a "slap in the face" for supporters.

Fifa has not yet commented on its pricing decisions.

BBC Sport understands tickets for the final in MetLife Stadium, New York, are in three tiers:

'Supporter value tier' - £3,119 ($4,185)
'Supporter standard tier' - £4,162 ($5,560)
'Supporter premium tier' - £6,615 ($8,860)

Tickets to Fifa's showpiece event are as much as seven times more expensive than the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, with the lowest price ticket at that event costing £450.

There are no concessions across any of its tickets for children or other groups.

And, in a departure from recent tournaments, group stage games are priced based on the perceived popularity of the teams involved, rather than at a flat rate.

This means, for example, England fans face paying more than Scotland.

Fifa has not provided details yet on how this "popularity" has been determined.

In Qatar, group stage fixtures had set prices of £68.50, £164.50 and £219.

But for England's match against Croatia on 17 June, tickets cost £198, £373 or £523.

England v Ghana is £164, £320 and £447, with England v Panama £164, £346 and £462.

Scotland's first two group games are cheaper than England's.

Against Haiti the prices will be £134, £298 or £372, with Morocco set as £163, £320 and £447. The final group game against Brazil is priced the same as England v Croatia.

Quarter-finals for all teams are £507, £757 and £1,073, with the semi-finals £686, £1,819 and £2,363.

For the entire tournament through to the final, it will cost about £5,225 for one person to go to all eight matches, up to £8,580 in the mid-price range, or £12,357 for the top tier.

In 2022, it would have cost £1,466, £2,645 or £3,914, though that was for seven games rather than eight.

The details emerged as the main ticket ballot opened on Thursday afternoon.

On Monday, members of national supporters' clubs will get the chance to enter a random draw for individual games, or to follow their team through to the final.

There are about 4,000 tickets for each game available through the official supporters' groups.

All other tickets are allocated through the ballot process, other than those held back by Fifa for corporate partners. Dynamic pricing is not being used in the main or national association ballots.

Prices on flights in to Toronto also trebled in some cases and hotel prices doubled in most cases. Better of booking an all inclusive somewhere and watching it on the Telly.

If we get past Bosnia and Northern Ireland or Italy!

FIFA have based the prices on the American ticket system which is inline with NBA/NFL prices. Generally much higher than what we pay in Europe. Americans will pay the prices. Mexico is a cheaper option for those who want to travel. Personally, I wouldn't pay the prices asked, hopefully FIFA will take note of the backlash and reduce prices. Even if fans protest and don't go, the tickets will sell to the prawn sandwich brigade and the stands will be full without the atmosphere. The next worldcup in Saudi will be more expensive imo. It's now a richmans game at the elite level like F1.

No doubt Trump has to get a cut of whatever Infantino is skimming. Should be a good amount for each of them judging by those prices.

As for the England fan his numbers are way under estimated for food, flights, travel, accommodations & spending money. That's presuming he can get the cheapest tickets for each game.

I was going to say it could be one of the rare times a Sky Sports subscription can be classed as a ‘bargain’ over here! :laughing6:

The better news is that the competition is ‘free-to-air’ in the UK after BBC Sport and ITV Sport unveiled their live match split for the FIFA World Cup 2026, confirming how UK audiences can watch every major moment of next summer's global football spectacular. The two broadcasters will once again deliver the entire tournament free-to-air sharing coverage of its biggest fixtures.

For this World Cup, FIFA and the Trumpeteers, are rinsing the real supporters, who should be the life-blood of the tournament!

No they won't, well not the average guy in the street. Nothing to do with "being there", they're just as into their sport as the next country.

You think the average American can afford those prices and would want to pay for a game they're not really interested in ? The apathy about the WC in the USA would surprise most? They will pay for the USA games but after they're out of interest. This is for the rich now not the average supporter from whichever country you choose to name.

Has the arrival of Messi to Beckham's Miami not increased the American interest in football? Saw they won the league last week.

It was said the interest in the sport went up when Beckham went over there as a player so I guess I just assumed it would increase further with Messi there.

Genuine question, because you would obviously know more than us.

The English FA have said they'll speak to FIFA about the ticket prices, after concerns raised by the FSA.

Not sure it'll change anything to do, but good to see the English FA speaking up for their fans on this occasion.

They'd need more national associations to speak up for there to be any chance of things changing though. I guess the Scottish FA might but not sure about any others.

Having many relatives in US they are shocked by the prices and they have decided to watch the games on tv due to the prices and will not go unless the prices are dropped pre game due to lack of sales Also remember these will be the same prices in Mexico and Canada. The current average price to watch a football at top level in US is reasonable for the average ticket apart for Inter Miami it has gone up from $40 to $150 since Messi arrived
There is enough wealthy people to sell out games from quarter finals upwards and all US games

I'm sure it made a big splash in Miami & probably amongst actual football fans all over the country but it hasn't moved the needle much if any as far as the game becoming more popular. Americans for the most part just don't seem to get it & they can't get their heads around how a game can finish 0-0 or a draw in general.

Overall I'm sure he moved the needle a little, just look at the way the prices went up in Miami as Abergavenny said above, but it's a big country and sport wise they're pretty set in their ways. Beckham had the Victoria factor and she is known much more widespread than he was or is, because of her designer stuff.

Even with Messi the standard of overall play isn't the best & I've tried watching games but it's just not the same & I don't even bother trying anymore.
