Ex-footballer Joey Barton has been sentenced to six months in custody, suspended for 18 months, for sending grossly offensive social media posts about broadcaster Jeremy Vine and TV pundits Lucy Ward and Eni Aluko.

Barton was convicted in November by a jury at Liverpool Crown Court, who found the 43-year-old had "crossed the line between free speech and a crime" with six posts he made on X.
